War in Iraq

This is to help people understand the basics of the war.

The cost of the war has been averaged to around 672 billion dollars. According to officials in the Bush administration back in 2002-03, the invasion and resurrection of Iraq was going to cost 60 billion, or 100-200 billion. The amount the U.S. is spending on the Iraq war passed the cost of the Vietnam War by the end of last year. That will make it the second most expensive war in American history. World War II was the most expensive.

“The costs of any intervention would be very small.”
– Glenn Hubbard 2002

The economic and emotional effect of the Iraq war at home is intense.  There is no way to put a price on the loss of even one soldier or Marine. Most of the effects of the Iraq War are easily felt and seen. Thousands of men and women have died. Thousands more have suffered both physical and mental injuries that will affect them for the rest of their lives.

“I’ll treat people nicer. In Iraq, I would meet people, and the next day they wouldn’t be there.”– Army Reserve Maj. Randell Alicea 2005

So what do you think? Is this war against Iraq successful? Has it made any positive influence at all? It is hard most people to change their beliefs on the war. I’m not trying to make them change their beliefs. If you think the war has done good, then great. Just try to understand why other people go against the war. I go against the war, but not the cause. Do some research on the treatment of the soldiers if you wish to learn more.

“The first week back, I was the best man in a wedding, and I had a Vietnam War veteran come up to me, and he handed me $50 and said, ‘Take your wife out to dinner. I appreciate what you did. We didn’t get the welcome we deserved when we got back, and I don’t want that to happen to you; I want you to go out and enjoy yourself.’” — Navy Corpsman Jim Weller 2004
