Weapons of The Middle Ages
This is an article about weapons in the Middle Ages.
From 500A.D. to 1400A.D. there were many different weapons used for the battles of the middle-east. These weapons included the Battle Axe, Scimitar, Broadsword, Falchion Sword, and numerous other weapons. These weapons were categorized into two main fighting ranks in the Middle Ages: Man-at-arms (Food-Soldiers) or Knights.
The “Lower-class” weapons were distributed among the Men-at-arms according to his or her status. These weapons include the Battle Axe and Scimitar. Battle Axes could be used with one or two hands, being used in the early Middle-Ages period; it could be hurled as a missile or could easily cut off the head or limb of an enemy. They varied in length from about 1ft to 5ft and most of the Axes had a crescent-shaped blade measuring 10inches from the top to bottom. They were such a strong weapon that the iron, steel, or sometimes bronze Battle-Axe could go through the strongest Knight’s armor. Another weapon used in the early Middle-Ages period was the Scimitar, which measured from 20 to 36 inches, curved to a point, and could be a 1 handed or 2 handed weapon. Some were skinny and narrow, wile some were quite large and wide. These weapons were often used from horseback. Like the Battle-Axe, a blow from a Scimitar could penetrate the strongest Knight armor and inflict quite an injury.
he “Upper-class” weapons belonged to the Knights and land lords who could afford better equipment. Among these weapons were the Falchion Sword and Broadswords (Which I mentioned earlier). The Broadsword was one of the early weapons, first being made at the beginning of the Middle Age. They weighed from 3 to 5 pounds, 2 to 3 inches in width, 30 to 45 inches long, was two edged, and came to a point at the top. This was a close contact weapon that was never thrown, but was capable of cutting off the head or limb of an opponent. The other “Upper-class” weapon I will describe is the Falchion Sword, which were very common among knights. Most were made with iron but had steel edges. It was curved to a point, in a way like Scimitars. The length of this weapon was around 37 to 40 inches and weighed between 1 and 3 pounds. A close contact weapon that was never thrown, but like all weapons I have mentioned, it was very capable of cutting off the head or a limb of an enemy.
