If the explosion doesn’t kill you the aftermath will. The repercussion of a nuclear explosion or event will be worse then the actual explosion. The United States of America found this out during World War Two when an atom bomb was dropped upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The explosions longest lasting effect was the radiation that killed thousands of people after the bomb was dropped. Another nuclear event will occur in the next 60 years because of the amount of nuclear material available to terrorist to be able to use and the number of missing nuclear devises.

            The reasons a nuclear event or war will occur within the next sixty years is because of the amount of nuclear devises available in the world to terrorist. September 11th proves everyone that the United State is not as safe as the government tries to portray. September 11th was not a nuclear event but it shows our borders could be trespassed.  Bombs know as “suitcase” nuclear bombs could be arriving in American ports any day undetected. The suitcase containers can hold a “good-sized” atomic bomb which could be detonated in the ports and used to block off trades. This type of can be carried as a back-pack by a strong person will be very inconspicuous. Another reason a nuclear event will happen is the amount of nuclear devises missing.

            Missing a shoe is not the best situation, but missing 84 nuclear devises is worse. One nuclear device can really ruin the whole world.  Russia lost 84 nuclear devises; these nuclear devises could be in the hands of terrorist. Terrorist against the United States with 84 nuclear devises that could be crossing out ports any day ready to detonate. Even if the terrorists are not intending to kill as many people as they can bombing one of the United States major cities could invoke havoc and distress within our borders.  The irresponsible Russians who lost the 84 nuclear devises could be putting the United States in grave danger. If we blame Russia for the nuclear attacks we might attack back causing a nuclear war. Nuclear war may seem extreme and some people do not believe it will happen but a nuclear event will happen.

            Some people believe that we are safe from a nuclear event or war from happening because of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. This basically says that countries that sign the treaty must reduce their arsenals and not assist other countries in making nuclear weapons. But this treaty isn’t doing much to stop the nuclear weapons population from growing. 187 countries have signed it now, but Israel, India and Pakistan all haven’t sighed. North Korea did originally signed the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty but withdrew in the late 1990s. As many people know North Korea and the United states haven’t always had the “best” relationship. So if North Korea now isn’t promising to reduce their weapons the United States might be in some trouble. Also the threat of countries who don’t “like” the United States might be greater if those countries sell nuclear devises to terrorists. Once a terrorist gets a nuclear weapon and uses it against the United States the United State is going to have a meltdown. The Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty doesn’t provide enough security to prevent a nuclear event to happen within the next 60 year.

Due to the amount of materials that is available to a terrorist and the missing nuclear bombs a nuclear event or war will occur in the next 60 year. Any treaties we have signed have rendered useless so if we are planning to stop a nuclear event we need to be prepared.  The constant threat of a nuclear war or event is on the minds of every American citizen we need to be aware of the dangers and help the fight in stopping the nuclear progression.
