World War One: The Major Battles
A short piece on the major battles of WWI.
There were many battles that took place during WW1. Here is a quick, short essay on a couple of the more commonly known ones.
In the Battle of the Somme the French and the British troops tried to attack a strongly defended German position to gain territory and to destroy the German man power.
In the battle of Vimy Ridge Canadian troops in trench warfare broke through the well and defeated German fortress Vimy Ridge earning Canada great respect from there allied nations.
In the battle of Cambria the British attempted to gain ground by launching a massed raid on dry ground at Cambria with 476 tanks, infantry and also calvary.
In the battle of Marne the German army advanced to Marne and then attempted to break through the defensive positions of the French and also the US troops.
In the battle of Ypres, British troops attempted to defend the town of Ypres from the German forces. The British held there positions, but suffered heavy losses.
And finally in the battle of Jutland the British Navy attempted a huge decisive battle against the German navy which back fires resulting in a German victory making it the biggest naval battle of WW1.

How can you have a list of major First World War battles and not include Verdun?
