Youtube: Immature Marines Urinating on Dead Taliban Soldiers

The United States marine Corp issued a statement which read “While we have not yet verified the origin or authenticity of this video, the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps. This matter will be fully investigated.”

My thoughts on the video and US marine statement

Surely no marine would be stupid enough to make a video of their unit urinating on a corpse. I would imagine their commanding officers would be extremely pissed that one of their subordinates would consciously jeopardize United States goals for a mere minutes of sadistic gratification. I’m not going to comment on the authenticity of this video but the fact remains that this may have damaged the reputation of those individuals and alienated them from their peers, at the very least and undermined the purpose of spending hundreds of billions of U.S. tax payers dollars as a consequence.

The statement issued by the US Marine Corp was very sensible and reassuring for those of us who are disgusted by such intolerance and abuse. We can all hope that these young men’s actions aren’t repeated because as the statement clearly shows, this sort of behaviour is certainly not consistent with the core values of the American people or the majority of free and civilised nations.
