10 Quick and Easy Steps to Organize Your Life

Disorganization has often kept us from what we want, including simple self relaxation. Better organization, combined with a clear sense of priorities, greatly indicates our chances of achieving long-term goals.

Here are 10 quick and easy steps on how to organize your life to point you in the right direction:

1.       LESS IS MORE

Throw away all the things that you don’t need. I suggest that you get a good size garbage can to ditch unwanted materials. For instance, to save some important articles, clip them and put them in a file or a basket. After a couple of months, throw out those you haven’t read. Also, you need to go back and purge outdated materials maybe twice a year.

2.       KEEP IT WITHIN REACH

Ideally, you don’t have to get up from your chair during work. Everything you need should be within reach.

3.       MAKE IT SIMPLE

Make your filing system simple. Your system should be automatic to use for it to work.

4.       DON’T SWEAT THE DETAILS

Make sure to have a permanent place for a particular thing. Little things eat up a lot of time, yet they’re the easiest items to wrangle in. You might be wasting a lot of your time looking for your pen if it’s not kept in a permanent place. If you want your pen, then go to the pen section.

5.       FREE YOUR MIND

Even high-capacity memories get bogged down trying to keep track of myriad details. If things are on paper, it becomes easier for the mind to breakdown into steps. Make a to-do list which is realistic. Prioritize tasks, emphasizing things that absolutely must get done that day.

6.       ARM YOURSELF

Get a single easy-to-carry organizer. With this tool, you should be able to see a day or a week a glance.

7.       DO A LITTLE EVERYDAY

Don’t let any work or task stack up into hours. Complete small tasks at a given time so that you can avoid your work to get stocked up.

8.       START THE DAY RIGHT

Avoid stressful things when you wake up. If you get to work stressed, the stress just compounds itself during the day.

Pack up everything that you need the night before to reduce the morning rush and the risk of forgetting something. Also, prepare the to-do list.

9.       SET YOUR OWN DEADLINES

Set a deadline that predates the actual one. For instance, when travelling, especially during busy hours, add at least 25 percent more time to your estimate; delays won’t be half so stressful with a time cushion.

10.   WORK INCENTIVES INTO YOUR TASKS

Tell yourself you can watch your favorite movie or TV show after – and only after your work. Or you can buy yourself something affordable for your work well done. These rewards will carry you through in achieving your goals.

These are just some of the tips that you can do to organize your life. These all work to me but might not work to others. Well, these are just my suggestions and it’s really up to you if you’re going to give them a try or not.

Sound advice. A must read for teens I suppose and for adults too.
