A Very Dangerous Occupation

Journalism is rapidly becoming quite a dangerous occupation to go into.

Dozens of journalists are being killed every year while they perform the very important job of letting the general public to know the things that are actually happening in the areas around us and the world at large. Without journalists the world would of course be oblivious about the important things happening around us.

The year 2009 was particularly the deadliest year in the past decade for journalists worldwide. The International Press Institute in Vienna, Austria reported that in 2009 alone a total of 110 of journalists were killed because of their work.

Most of these journalists are meeting their untimely deaths mostly in conflict zones like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iraq in particular was reported by the International Press Institute to be the most dangerous country to work as a journalist, claiming the most lives over the past decade.

In several of the conflict areas there have been reports of the intentional targeting the lives of journalists.

On the list of most dangerous places for journalists is Iraq taking the lead, followed by the Philippines, Colombia, Mexico, and Russia.
