A Woman Greatness

Adithi is a big movement in India started by a simple woman.

A lady Ms.Viji started this well administered and most powerful NGO in Bihar state, India.

She is the daughter of a retired deputy chairman of planning commission, govt. of India. In Bihar and Jharkhand this NGO under the leadership of Ms.Viji has experienced many turn a rounds.

Tribal cooperative group called Gozobaisi (meaning women’s empowerment) with this venture; many tribal women have become literate.

They treat her as their goddess.

Ms.Viji has taken efforts to tie up Adithi with 25 other popular NGO’s to serve better to the down trodden women.

Girl child marriages, infanticide, female foeticide are some of the causes for which Adithi has sowed with vigor. Totally 25 projects paving way for the welfare of down trodden are executed by this noted NGO.

Sitarmaehi, Muzaffarpur, Katihar, Saharsa, Patna &Dharbanga districts have received a face-lift due to the excellent leadership of Ms.Viji.

‘Kopal’ is the name of the project set up by this NGO to fight foeticide. Bag making, screen-printing, stitching, knitting are taught to the tribal women and made them to earn without depending upon their life partner.

It is a pride that 568 self help groups are initiated by Adithi through which women are indulged in agriculture, food processing etc…

AYODARE was started by Adithi with the support of 10 NGOs and enabled the women to get technical, managerial &financial support. Wastelands were made fertile through Adithi and earning up to

Rs20, 000/acre was possible.

Afforestation is also another step taken by Adithi, which won the govt. support as it protected the environment.

Fisherwomen were helped through Mahila Jalkrishak Samuh cooperatives. Ponds were taken for lease and fishing was made possible for their livelihood.

Govt. owned Punjab national bank has also extended its support to Adithi. A group of women under the banner Swashakti have earned a lot and put several lakhs of rupees in the bank.

The word Adithi stands for Agriculture, Dairy, Industries, Tree plantation, Handicrafts and Integration of women.

It was started in 1988 in Patna.

It has the following credentials:

  • Adithi short stay homes
  • Kopal (to prevent female foeticide)
  • Chaukat a self-help group to help sex workers
  • Swashakti (to promote scheduled caste “the” food processing agriculture etc.)
  • Adithi- IGNOU (collaboration with IGNOU, New Delhi to help tribal women to get higher education and degrees)
  • Gozabaisi (tribal cooperation group to provide literacy)

So Adithi is a grand success in India with plenty of support from various sources like govt., banks, universities, etc.

    This indeed is a very great task taken up by Ms.Viji. Her invaluable service to the Society should really be appreciated and we should support such people in what ever ways we can!
