Get Involved in Sacramento Area Breast Cancer Events
If you’re in the Sacramento area and want to get involved in the fight against breast cancer, you’re in luck: Four major breast cancer awareness events are scheduled for the month of October.
For the past 25 years, October has been designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since its inception in 1984, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has brought together national public service organizations, professional medical associations and government agencies to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease and provide greater access to screening services.
If you’re in the Sacramento area and want to get involved, you’re in luck: Four major breast cancer awareness events are scheduled for the month of October. See below for the events sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Sacramento.
Breast Cancer Survivor Photo Exhibit
What: Local photographer Monica Neumann Lunardi’s new exhibit, “Breast Cancer is Not a Death Sentence,” will showcase black and white photos. More than 10 local women posed for Monica’s beautiful and sometimes edgy portraits that aim to express there is life after cancer.
When: Sat., Oct. 10
Where: Kennedy Gallery Art Center, 1140 20th Street, Sacramento
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of the Greater Sacramento Area
What: This 5K noncompetitive walk to save lives has no registration fee and no fundraising minimum, but participants are encouraged to use online tools to build a team and raise money for the American Cancer Society.
When: 8 a.m., Sun., Oct. 18
Where: West Steps, State Capitol, on 10th and L Streets
Tee Up For the Cure
What: Rancho Murieta Country Club is hosting a golf tournament, dinner and live and silent auction, with proceeds benefitting Komen for the Cure, Sacramento. Entry fees for the golf tournament (including dinner) are $65 for full Rancho Murieta golf and sport/social members and $130 for guests and house members. Non-golfers are encouraged to participate for dinner ($48) and the raffles and auction.
When: 1 p.m., Sun., Oct. 18

Wacoal Fit for the Cure
What: Stop by a participating Macy’s for your professional, complimentary bra fitting from a Wacoal fit specialist, and a $2 donation will be made to benefit Komen for the Cure, Sacramento. An additional $2 donation will be made for every Wacoal, Be.Tempted bra or Shapewear item purchased.
When and Where: Wed., Oct. 21 – Macy’s at Sunrise Mall, Citrus Heights; Thurs., Oct. 22 – Macy’s at Downtown Plaza, K Street, Sacramento; Fri., Oct. 23 – Macy’s at Roseville Galleria, Roseville, and Macy’s at Arden Fair Mall, Sacramento
