Helping Hands for Helpless: AWLH

None worries about them. These poor creatures keep living and dying in huge pain, sometimes even wounded and bleeding with hundreds of maggot eating their bodies. Imagine for a while how it feels to be eaten live………
People come, see and pass by but none comes for their help. I am talking about the poor stray animals on roads in India. In Kullu, I see a group of boys with the name AWLH (Animal Welfare League of Himachal) who have come up as helping hands for these helpless animals. Being stray is not their fault but they are suffering because of the sick mentality of owners who rear them for their profit and when these go unproductive, these are abandoned on the roads. After all where will these speechless animals go after being kicked out? Obviously these come up on roads and streets. As these are not the educated people like us, they do not know the rules of roads and hence become a victim of road accidents and cruelties of people who hate them to see like this.
AWLH boys rescue these injured and sick animals from roads and bring them to the veterinary care centres where they are treated. They also provide food and shelter to these animals during the period of treatment and then try to find out homes for them.

They have rescued many animals in acute emergencies and helped them living through the process by getting them treated.

The calf in above images was also rescued in emergency and taken to the veterinary care where it was immediately operated and saved.

After getting treatment for many weeks, when it recovered fully, it was adopted by the lady who is in this image.
This is one example of their help, they have helped hundreds of animals including stray cattle, equines, dogs and even injured birds. It is a routine for them to get the approriate veterinary care, shelter and fodder for such animals in pain. They just can’t see an animals roaming on roads being eaten live by the maggots in the wounds.
Another calf with a severe maggot wound……………………………………………………………….

A cow with prolapse and purrulent wound………………………………………………………………

A dog with severe disease was abandoned by someone which was rescued and treated but couldn’t be saved……..

A paralytic canine rescued………………………………………………………………………………..

An equine with dacrocystitis rescued from roads and got treated at veterinary care. It was also having a tumor that was operated. These days a blind equine baby is also under the care of AWLH……….
These are just a few examples, their mission goes on endless…………….
The group doesn’t have land and buliding of their own and run the things with little funds, but still they show an example of “where there is a will, there is a way”

They have set up temporary shelters for these animals where they keep them untill recovery and adoption.
The story doesn’t end here, the boys also have to travel to far off places to find and purchase fodder for these animals………

A village in the hills where they have gone to manage fodder for their animals……..

Boys uploading grass on the jeep……….
In the veterinary centre, where they use to bring the animals for treatment, once they had to get the animal treated when it was raining, they atonce decided to provide a shelter to it, so that no other animal in this crush had to bear it.

The crush without roof shelter in above image………

AWLH people working……………………………………………………………………………………….

Completing the task………………………………………………………………………………………….
and then they dedicated it to the veterinay centre and now the vet staff and animals do not have to go wet in the rain…………………………..

This was in brief, what I could feel for these dedicated people, my article ends here but their mission doesn’t, it still goes on and they need more hands and help to help more poor animals……………
