Homeless Causes: Reasons People are Homeless

Persons end up homeless for many different reasons.

With the change in the economic situation in many countries, more and more people are finding themselves homeless. Persons end up homeless for many different reasons. Not all homeless people have a complete lack of shelter at nights, some persons who have been made homeless have lost their homes because they have been unable to keep up with mortgage payments or rent payments. Many of these people have no relatives or friends to turn to who live near to where they work, may choose to live in a setting that allows them to be close to their place of work. Some persons have tried to find other options, living in tents, or living in their cars. In this way they are able to minimize their spending and they only spend money on transportation to and from work.

Not all homeless persons have jobs however and some persons have no means of income. These persons also have fewer resources, such as motor vehicles. They are less likely to recover from an economic setback in a few years, because they have fewer resources.

Some persons may have lost all their assets after a major illness wiped out thier savings and they were unable to work.

The persons who fare worst in an economic downturn are persons who have very little education.

In warmer climates, homeless persons find shelter in parks and other public facilities. They may perform small jobs that are available around the area in which they live, in order to earn money to buy food, soap and other essential items. For persons who have a drug habit, this money quickly disappears and is not used for food in most cases. Drug users may ask passers-by for money to buy food out of genuine need, but when they finally get cash, the need for drugs overrides the need for food.

Homeless people exist in every society and when they live in public spaces, they are often seen as a nuisance. Sometimes the animosity towards homeless people heightens because of acts of violence perpetrated by homeless persons.
