I Am Confused

We travel around the world to help needy people, but what about the ones who need it here.

This last week we have seen another natural disaster in a small country that does not have the means to take care of themselves. So America does what it does best and heads to Haiti to attempt to rescue them, and we should because we have the ability and the means and those people need help. As Americans, for the most part, do have a good heart and are willing to help those in need whenever needed. Now that is where the confusion comes in. We travel across the oceans to poor nations and give aid, money, boots on the ground for help, medical attention, and in some cases we rebuild the damaged area. But here in the United States we have our own problem, our own people that are in great need of help, and we do the opposite. I am talking about some of our homeless. Cities, counties, and states have implimented laws and ordinances that restrict help of these people. Many areas restrict churches and non-profit agencies to limit the amount of people that can be housed and fed. I do understand that cities do not want to be seen as a place that is filled with homeless people walking the streets. But to enact a law that keeps places from feeding people that are hungry is not the American way. If we can take over nations and establish a domocratic society on the people of that country, then why can’t we come up with a plan to feed these people. Many would work for it if they had the chance to. Some would prefer not to. And the sad part is, many are veterans. Veterans of wars, mostly unpopular ones, who sacrificed their lives and many who walk the streets do so because that is how they came back from a war that they chose to fight in, for the very freedoms that the people making these laws to not feed them enjoy everyday by having the freedom to do as they please. I have been told that the homeless do not vote. There are documented reports of sick and injured homeless being hauled out to rural areas after treatment at hospitols so that they do not become a burden financially to the city and medical establishments where they live. Is it double standards or what? I am confused. But when you donate money to an organization to help a foreign disaster, give some to local places that feed these people, or when they are standing on the corner, give them a dollar. Better yet, give them a job if they want one.
