Should Non-Profits Aim Fundraising Efforts?
How to raise funds for your non profits.
Non profit organizations work on the fundamentals of funds and dedicated service. You would find person with dedication working for non profits. It becomes essential that people need to involve with these organizations on a selfless note, in order to make a non profit organization a success. Non profits without the support of a committed staff will reach nowhere.
It becomes then all the more significant then for the unassociated people to come forward and lend a hand of support to these devoted staff, morally and financial as well. It is for the people to realize, it is you and I who need to go ahead, make contributions to non profit organizations, to make them fulfill their mission, and make sure the staff gets the basic necessities of life to survive. That’s where fundraising comes in. Non profits need funds, and therefore there has to be a fundraising effort. Now the question here is who takes the onus to raise funds. Is it the non profit organization themselves, or an independent organization that would do the job for non profits. Before you precede any further gain enough inputs on how non profits work.
A non profit organization is purely dependant on external sources of funding. Funding is required to enhance the working capacity of these organizations. It becomes all the more necessary to have a constant source of funding on regular basis which would help the organization to work without any hindrance. Now the question that arises here is who makes fundraising possible. Is it the government, or an outsourced organization working as an agent for non profits, or it the non profits themselves who needs to pursue with fundraising efforts.
The government doesn’t support every non profits spread across the country, there are few lucky ones who do get government financial assistance, but not all. An outsourced firm can efficiently do the job of fundraising; still it hurts as non profit organizations would have to render a certain amount, as fee to the outsourced firm for their work.
Hence, non profits themselves need to step in and do the fundraising effort on their own. Keep a separate department for fundraising within the organization that would give more direction to the cause. Collect funds and issue proper receipt to the donors. Maintain a log file that keeps track of various donors who had contributed and another log that lists those who are ardent donors on a regular basis.
Make sure you maintain statement of accounts and issue regular reaper’s report about your organization’s indulgence in social activities, such as non profits contribution to the old age homes, or an orphanage. It should also provide details of their staff involvement with deprived ones, the times they spent with those little ones, and stories told by one of the inmates of an old age home. Having a reaper’s report makes your fundraising easy and accepted by the masses.
