The Sierra Club
All about the The Sierra Club in United States, which is responsible in helping Wildlife Preservation and keeping animals safe.
The Sierra Club was created in 1892 by John Muir. The original purpose of the Sierra club was to “make the mountains glad.” John Muir was the clubs first original president. He was president until his death in 1914. Since his death the club that he created has gone on to create National Parks and a National Wilderness Preservation System. The Sierra Clubs is America’s oldest, largest and most influential environmental organization.
The Sierra Club has over 700,000 members. Each of these members job is to protect the communities and the planet. The club is divided up into different and each chapter has a specific job, but each job finally comes into a whole and helps shape America’s land and community.
The Sierra Club has had many accomplishments that have help the United States. In 1899 the Sierra Club helped create Mt. Rainier National Park. Another one of the clubs accomplishments was the enactment of the Clean Water Act. The Clean Water Act helps make sure that no pollution makes its way into the water. This keeps the water clean for the animals and for the people to drink.
Some accomplishments that the Sierra Club has had have been huge. For example, Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act granted more and 100 million acres of parks, wildlife refuges and wilderness areas to the club. This helped them put endangered animals in a safe secure place so that they won’t become extinct. By the club setting this up, it gives hunters boundaries of where they can kill animals and where they can’t. This is another reason how the club helps the U.S.A.
In 1977 the club urged President Carter to support a gas pipeline that they wanted to avoid the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. If they wouldn’t have an urged Carter then the pipeline would have gone through and it would have released the toxic chemicals into the air and it would have put the animals at risk that lived in the refuge.
The most recent accomplishment was in 2002 when a bill was passed. The bill that was passed gave 500,000 acres of Mojave Desert wilderness in southern Nevada. Another bill soon after that added 57,000 acres to areas in central California. The most important accomplishment was when the Senate rejected a proposal to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.
So in conclusion The Sierra Club helps the United States because all it has been doing since it was created is setting up Wildlife Preservations and keeping animals safe. It has also been working overtime in making sure that the environment is clean. So there is no way that the Sierra Clubs harms the United States, All it does it help the environment and keeps the animals and the people safe and clean.
