Tour De Cure: June 2009
This contains pictures of the Tour de Cure June 2009 at Boiling Springs PA This is not a official page for the ADA or any other organization, it is pictures I took and some of the thoughts I had about this ride.
The Tour de Cure bike ride is a function of the American Diabetes Association to raise funds for research into finding a cure for the disease. The Keystone VHF is an amateur radio group (ARRL Web Page) that provides communications for emergencies and public functions like this one. In this I am showing what I saw there. I do not speak officially for the ADA or the KVHF – they are my own observations. Either of these groups can be contacted through their web pages.
If you are tired of the bad news of the media look at a sampling of the faces of what is right about this country. They are not all here but they are seen at events like this one. The solutions to the problems we have are not the faces in Washington DC, they are the problem. Check these faces for the solution. It is the average person out there doing what they can to make this world a better place. They may do it through a church, a service club like the Moose, Masons, Elks, VFW, or just helping someone down the block. I trust these people more than I trust any politician to do the right thing.
Every photographer has the ‘favorite picture’. Of the nearly 20,000 I have taken in the last three years the one below has to be close to the top. I was at the start line for the second start taking pictures. I shot about forty shots and did not remember this young woman till I was back home looking at the pictures. The picture is as taken with a small crop along the top, bottom and right side to center it a little better. And somehow I got that smile that could warm a whole county, maybe a state, the high five, the glasses with a tint that accent the face, the small earring and the decoration on the shirt that reads “Choose your own future”. They all contribute to the picture. I have no idea who she is but she is a gem. She is not the only great person on the ride. I just captured her at the right moment in time ant to me she is a symbol of everyone who rode that day.
