What Does it Take to Live in a Nursing Home?

Elderly dementia patients need to be placed where they can best be taken care of, however, the way the system is set up is a gigantic catch-22.

It is because of this, that I believe the American elderly health care system needs a swift kick in the pants to get it turned around in its course. There must be an easier way to give dementia patients the care they need without losing your mind in the process. There should be a step-by-step assistance program that helps the families in need to get the job done as painlessly as possible. Why is this not being done? Nearly every family on the planet has either dealt with this, or soon will, yet we don’t have a family-friendly method in place, for installing the dementia patient into the proper facility with ease. Speaking as a member of a family currently going through this process, I have to wonder if America really cares about its elderly, or does it only care about its red tape?

The elderly are still people, no matter how rotten they get treated, and they have rights just like anyone else, but those rights are twisted up in such a way, that the same system set into place to help that person, ends up causing more harm than good. A family is not always equipped to handle a mental condition that, quite frankly, scares the heck out of them. Dementia is definitely not a pretty thing, and it needs to be handled with kid gloves. Nursing homes, the good ones anyway, are fully equipped and trained to handle what comes their way. There is no doubt in my mind that this system needs a complete overhaul and right now, before all care-givers go completely insane trying to cut through the muck.
