The WHO was established in 1948. It aims at fighting diseases and improving the health service. It is an important branch of the UN. It advises the government on many health matters. It warns doctors about epidemics that may have started in some part of the world. It organizes worldwide campaigns against diseases like malaria and tuberculosis which kill millions of people every year. With its help, smallpox was eradicated from the earth.
