Unless you have read the bible for yourself, of which I am quite sure you have not, you will find that the book was written over a 1500 year period, by some 60 authors( obviously men) from 49 different countries! The authors were from all walks of life and could not have collaborated together to create a book of this magnitude! Scholars all agree on the fact that the book reads as if written by one author! The book basically is a guide for God fearing men, the New Testament( Gospel) The Gospel a translation meaning Good news! Another aspect to look to is that there is likely more to what "they" were doing in setting up ancient cultures than the momentary action and reward. Look to society at it's core. It is the antithesis to how cultures of the different nations lived. We didn't have "society", "civilization" or set up for the future. Cultures used to live in sync with the planet because they lived in the moment (like popular new self help books) and returned what was not used. With the uprising of so many cultures with similar Gods and concepts but using different symbols and written language, society has served to build on the concept of war and injustice. Most religions and cultures have congruencies at their core, but the persuit of our social systems has always been to be the favored child/culture of the God that set up the ideology in the first place. Why would the one and only need to lay down a commandment not to worship and other God "before me."
