Aliens: Possible Methods of Travel

If aliens really do visit us how do they go about it? Here are some popular beliefs amongst scientists.

Aliens: Possible Methods of Travel

We would expect one simple way to find life would to find a place like earth as we know earth has the building blocks to form life. The problem is a planet such as planet earth is likely to be a long, long way away. And space distances are so vast they are measured in light-years rather than miles.

One light-year is equivalent to 6 trillion miles. That is the distance travelled in one year by a beam of light moving in excess of one hundred and eighty six thousand miles per second. Light from earths sun is known to reach earth in around 8 minutes, and on top of that takes another ten and a half years to reach the nearest known planet outside of the solar system. Any alien planning to visit us from this planet face a round trip of one hundred and eighty trillion miles. So this suggests at first thought the only way to shorten this known journey would mean having to go faster than the fastest thing we know, Light its self.

But there’s a problem this goes against Einstein’s cosmic speed limit in which he said it was impossible to go beyond such speeds. However in 1916 einstien created an even more powerful theory the general theory of relativity. It ponders the possibility of not trying to defy the laws of physics but to get around them.

Theory One – Warping of Space time

imagine space time as rubber fabric hold tort from all for corners, now imagine a heavy ball such a bowling ball being placed in the center of the “space time fabric” this will cause an indent and a hollow in the space time. Now once you introduce a smaller ball to the equation it will head spiralling towards the larger object. Now imagine a piece of paper with the letter “A” written at one end and the letter “B” written at the other to represent planetary locations. The conventional method would  be to travel a straight trajectory until you reach the desired destination. But by warping space time you are in effect folding the paper so both starting location and final destination meet forming a worm hole (a multiple connected space)

Theory Two – Warp Drive

In theory it is possible that Intelligent aliens could move space itself enabling a craft to reach its destination without actually moving faster than the speed of light. For this to work they would have to be able to collapse the space in front of them while expanding the space behind them this would in theory be making space move while the craft is stationary with respect to its surroundings.

Very interesting theories, I never thought of it in that way.
