Another Alternative Explanation for Ancient Mythic Origins

In an earlier article, I explored the question of the possibility that ancient extraterrestrial visitors could have brought about the basis of mythic gods thousands of years ago. In this paper we will delve into a completely terrestrial alternative to this mythic origin theory.

Scientists say that the current human form has been around for at least 100,000 years, possibly longer. For all of that time, our brain capacity and thus inventive capabilities have been basically the same as they are today. If that is indeed the case then why were our advancements apparently so small until a little more than 7,000 years ago? What were we doing with all that brain power potential for nearly 93,000 years? It seems unlikely that we were just hanging around in caves all that time. A general overview of the history we do have recorded might give us a clue. We have a tendency to rise and fall, repeatedly. Could it be that our pre-historic ancestors may have risen to greater heights than we give them credit, only to fall from those heights to intense depths of cultural disarray? Could this cycle have occurred multiple times during those thousands of years? Could a major catastrophic fall have wiped out nearly all of the physical evidence of these previous peaks of advanced achievement, leaving only scattered clues, which most academics dismiss as anomalies, discarded from consideration when charting the historical time lines of human progression?

Massive Global Catastrophe

It would seem that a global catastrophic event occurred long ago in the obscure past. Some call it the sinking of Atlantis, or the great flood or deluge. Even others might refer to it as the fall of the Tower of Babel. More recently, the theory has come to light that this event may have been the last time the Earth endured a massive crustal shift, bringing about immense seismic reactions, volcanic repercussions, and a vast melting off of the last Ice Age, thus flooding all coastal regions, and throwing the world into chaos. A good book to read on this topic would be “When The Sky Fell – in Search of Atlantis” by Rand and Rose Flem-Ath. Whatever you call this catastrophic event, vague evidence seems to exist that it knocked humanity down from the heights of great advancement, possibly even from a global culture down to a veritable “dark age”, from which we slowly crawled back up during what we now know as recorded history. The research of Graham Hancock supports this contention. As stated above, this recorded history has its own share of rising and falling, but the ancient fall, which became the basis of countless myths and legends the world over, took humanity to the brink. It was big, and we barely survived it.

We’re living in the midst of a collapsing society ourselves. It would be nice if some small segment of society survives to continue our culture and technology. It would be even nicer if these people included ME in their superior society.

Seriously, I’m available. Take me with you!

    B. Nelson,

There’s actually no reason to think that it couldn’t be both. It would be a rare thing that has only one explanation. Most complex systems have multiple roots.
