Close Encounters of The Fourth Kind?

Alien abduction movie set for release on November 6th is already creating a bit of a stir partly because of claims that it is based on real alien abductions that took place in Alaska…

The Fourth Kind – Fact or Fantasy?

Is there anyone who grew up in the seventies that does not automatically replay the musical code used by the scientists to get the attention of the alien mother ship in Close Encounters of the Third Kind? That movie did wonders to change the overall perception of aliens from sinister and seriously weird creatures to potentially friendly and essentially harmless intergalactic tourists.

The Fourth Kind is set to change perceptions back again. The movie blurb says:

A UFO sighting is referred to as an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. Contact with extraterrestrials, is an encounter of the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document… Until now

(Go on, admit it, you’ve got that doo, doo, doo, doo, doo thing going on haven’t you?)

Set in Nome, Alaska the film explores why the area has such a high incidence of unexplained disappearances which despite the hard work of the FBI which has carried out many investigations in Nome over the years have remained unexplained. Stands to reason it must be aliens, right?

The female interest, Milla Jovovich plays the beautiful (of course) psychologist, Dr. Abigail Tyler, whose interviews with affected patients unearthed the most shatteringly convincing arguments for alien abduction so far brought to light.

Bearing in mind that this film is based on reality, hitherto unseen footage has been used throughout which effectively underscores the sheer terror experienced by the victims.

Nicely written, though if I had one comment to make I’d say I was left hoping for a little more, ie more debate about the whole fact or fiction question.
