Creating Supernatural Science

When a man goes to a doctor, all he can do is to explain his symptoms to the doctor. The symptoms are real, but the diagnosis of the doctor might be flawed. Likewise when a person who has experienced something that appears under the remit of the paranormal, he may explain what has happened to many people, and just as when the same person takes the same disease to different doctors and gets different diagnoses, the person who has experienced supernatural phenomena will get different explanations as to what the cause of the phenomena really is from the people he has explained it to. As such we are permanently in a position of lack of knowledge and the various political and religious factions are at each others throats fighting for the supremacy of their ideas in the same way as the creationists are fighting against the evolutionists.

There must come a time in the development of ideas surrounding the occult when we can put aside the religious models of the way that the supernatural world works and can move on to a more cause and effect attitude. I know that this can be both hard and seemingly hypocritical as most supernatural phenomena seem to occur in the states of prayer and meditation, which are, by their very nature, religious. However, if we can assume that the phenomena that happen have any reality in any way at all, then we can learn how those phenomena can be recreated. If we can do that, then we can put them to good use, even in the smallest ways. If it can be demonstrated that even a marginal increase in human health can be provided by certain exercises then why not study them and apply them to modern medicine? If it can be demonstrated that, with intelligent application, traditional tools of divination can be used to gain another point of view then why not use them in therapy? And if it can be demonstrated, more reliably then in the past, that under the conditions of meditation, impressions can be delivered telepathically over distance, then the precise circumstances of telepathic act should also be researched so that we can all get a better understanding of how this important aspect of human communication can occur, and then to use it to our advantage.

But how could this come about? We who inhabit the new age world have to place our religious beliefs aside and work towards the creation of an understanding of how to create these phenomena. Certain denominations of new ager disregard science as being at all beneficial, when they don’t realize that science is the methodology for understanding the natural world and is just as applicable in the supernatural world as in the quantum physicists laboratory.

We have to analyze the reported phenomena and then apply the very real tools of science, not to find the apparent cause of the phenomena or to design a model of the spiritual world that can explain the result, but to direct us to work out under what physical and psychological conditions the effects occur.
