Fatal Ufo Crash in Texas Retold
True story or just another hoax?
Nearly everyone is acquainted with the spacecraft incident that allegedly occurred near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. It has been written about extensively and committed to the silver screen. Not so many of are familiar with the alien ship that supposedly crash landed in Aurora, Texas although I happen to believe the story generated more interested personalities and, unlike the Roswell affair, no attempt at a cover-up was made. Indeed, quite a to-do was made of the incident.

A few years before the Wright brothers first took to the air in 1903 there had already been many “sightings” of so-called flying objects in various locations throughout the U.S. One such account appeared in the April 19, 1897 edition of the Dallas Morning News written by a resident of Aurora, Texas, S.E. Haydon. Mr. Haydon wrote of an unidentified flying object hitting a windmill on Judge J.S. Proctor’s land two days prior at 6:00 a.m causing it to crash. The pilot, described as being “not of this world,” and a Martian, according to an Army officer from Fort Worth, died and were buried with Christian rites at the Aurora Cemetery.

Local lore has it that the wreckage of the space ship was dumped into the well beneath the damaged windmill. Some dispute this saying it went into the grave with the aliens’ bodies.
In 1945 Brawley Oates bought the Proctor property, cleaned out the old well and later became badly crippled with arthritis which he said was the result of drinking contaminated water from the wreckage that was dumped into the well. He sealed the well in 1957 and built a shed over it.

What an interesting tale. With UFO’s I just don’t know. I have seen some strange things in the sky from time to time. Maybe one day I will now the answer. I just hope they return me to earth in one piece.

Very interesting story, Ken. I know a few people who said they saw a UFO, and to this day are sticking to their story.

Interesting, It is true that we are not alone in this Universe, space has no ending or is there an end? We do not know, it is very big and very far from our technology to have a search on the whole. Many people are trying to convince their selves that it is not true and they don’t exist. They are only a pigment of our imagination, and the one who believe will be classified as insane, but if you ask those non believers, Do they know how big the universe? How they are? how come that we are the only living organism in the space knowing it is that big? They cannot answer. And that goes for people who do not know how to critically think. Very nice article my friend, not only because of the UFO story but this article is also an eye opener for all the people… who are…. anyway they know who they are….

There is never a no or a yes to such a thing. We do not know everything,I want it to be true, minus the ill effects and who doesn’t?
Cemetery officials should be more flexible, of course with all precautions.

An intriguing story. Why can it not be true? I am sure there is life in space, so maybe there are UFOs. A great read.

One would think alien technology would be superior to our own that they wouldn’t crash. I guess they’re human after all. lol. Fascinating piece, Ken. Did you ever want to fly to outer space?

UFO sightings are interesting but I take them with a grain of salt. I had a strange experience myself that I have never been able to explain to my satisfaction. I think I wrote about it earlier on Triond. I don’t think I will ever stop trying to explain it.

Remember that in the 1890’s several inventors were experimenting with flight. The Aurora airship might have been one of those early experimental aircraft rather than a UFO.
