Ghost Hunting Equipment
List of equipment used by modern ghost hunters.
Ghost hunters use a wide variety of equipment and tools in their quest to investigate alleged paranormal activities. While there is not a univeral acceptance among most ghost hunters the methodologies listed are commonly utilized.
OBJECTIVE EQUIPMENT
- Infrared, digital and night vision video photography. Still photography including digital and disposable cameras. These are used to capture visual manifestations. Cost $100-$1500. Thermal cameras that locate heat loss and cold spots cost between $3000-$10,000.
- Digital thermometers measure surface temperatures using advanced infrared sensor technology. Displays in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Excellent for distance to spot ratio and fast response times. Cost $20-$200.
- EMF meters measure electromagnetic fields to detect unexplained magnetic fields, which may develop in the presence of ghosts or during possible spirit communication. Cost $90-$400.
- Geiger counters used to measure fluctuations in radiation. Some believe this is a sign of a disturbance in spirit energy.
- Ion meters can detect excess of negative ions, which may be associated with paranormal activity.
- Infrared or ultrasonic motion sensors to monitor possible anomalous movement in a given area where paranormal actively is suspected.
NON-OBJECTIVE EQUIPMENT
- Dowsing rods are usually constructed of brass and bent into an L-shape. Used by persons who feel they help indicate the presence of ghosts and spirits.
- Psychics, trance mediums or sensitive individuals thought to have the abilities to identify and make contact with spiritual entities. This practice is very controversial with ghost hunting groups that prefer a more scientific approach.
- Demonologist or Clergy Members are individuals that say prayers, give blessings, or perform rituals for the purpose of cleansing a location of alleged ghosts, demons, poltergeists or other negative energy. They are also considered controversial with scientific ghost hunting groups.

I’m not going to be looking for any ghosts, but I do believe in them. You’ve put together a thorough listing of some spooky equipment; great article!

You said in the article “scientific ghost hunting groups” HUH!!!!! What scientific principles are these groups following as there are none. The fact here is science cannot prove or disprove ghosts/spirits exists. So again what principles are being followed by these groups when none exist?

An interesting article. There are some very interesting studies coming forward, the use of modern equipment will one day prove or disprove theories.

Pam,
I believe one day they will prove ghosts really do exist. I also believe that alternate dimensions of earth exist. I believe there are realities opposite our reality. Perhaps ghosts are apart of another reality opposite our own. Great article. Keep up the great work!!!

I didn’t know that so much equipment was necessary. I’m glad I decided to take a look back and I intend to check out more of your older articles.
