Ghosts: Do You Believe?

My husband and I are not fortunate enough to have our own home, we must rent. In a way it is nice because we do not have all the responsibilities that go with owning a home. We can always pick up and move and have a change of scenery, but sometimes you get unwanted houseguests!

Most people do not believe in ghosts or spirits. I, myself did not believe in such a thing either. That is until my husband and I moved our family into a house that we found for rent. Then things happened that changed my mind. Just let me explain.

As I said, we found a house for rent. It was a lovely house in town. The neighborhood was nice and it was close to the school. The house itself was spacious and it had a fenced in yard. We were allowed pets, which was perfect because we had a dog and three cats. It seemed to be exactly what we were looking for, so we rented it. Soon after moving in things began happening.

At first I noticed little things, such as the back door hanging wide open. Well, of course I would turn to the children and demand to know who left the door open. They would all sit and look at me and swear that they did not leave that door open. Then, I wwould be washing dishes and see someone out of the corner of my eye standing in the hallway, thinking it was one of the kids, I would turn to see what they wanted and nobody would be there. Also lights would come on by themselves and go off. All of this went on for about a year and I just ignored it. Then suddenly everything just got out of hand and I could not ignore things any longer. You see, my daughter started seeing ghosts in the house!

One night my husband and I were in the living room watching TV. The kids had all gone to bed. All of a sudden my daughter came racing in the living room screaming and crying, she started telling us there was a man in her room!!!! My husband immediately jumped up and took off upstairs to her bedroom. When he got there he found nobody. He checked the whole house and checked the doors. He came back in the living room and asked my daughter what the heck was going on. By this time, I had her calmed down. She started talking and this is what she told us. She said ” A old man came in my room and he was kinda bald, he wore glasses and was hunched over a little bit . He walked over by my bed and stopped and just looked at me and then he disappeared ” My husband and I looked at each other. My goodness, what were we to say? My husband knew I had been seeing things in the house and now my daughter was seeing them too. We told her she was probably just dreaming. She insisted that she had been awake. She was scared to go back to her room so we fixed a bed for her on the couch and she slept there all night.

After that night, my daughter refused to sleep in her room at night. I really didn’t blame her. That house made me uneasy too. She did go up there during the day to play though. Then one day she came running down the steps screaming my name. I thought she had seen that man again, but this time it was a different ghost. My daughter said she was playing and she turned around and standing there was a little girl with curly blond hair, she said this little girl looked at her and said ” tomorrow is my birthday!” the little girl started clapping her hands and my daughter ran! I told my daughter to wait downstairs and I bravely went upstairs, thankfully I found nobody. I gather up some of my daughters things and came back downstairs. Of course, now my daughter refused to go upstairs at all.

It finally started getting completely out of hand, when one night we woke up hearing our daughter screaming in the living room. We ran out and she was in tears. This time she had seen an old woman but this old woman was mean and nasty! She said to my daughter ” Get out of my house! ” Now my daughter was afraid to even sleep in the living room! We went and set up a cot for her in our bedroom and that is where she slept.

When the 1st rolled around, we went to pay the rent. I started talking to our landlord. I told her some strange things had been going on in the house. She asked me what I meant. I told her some of the things that I had been experiencing and I told her my daughter was seeing ghosts. She asked me if I was serious. I told her I was and then I started to explain to her about these ghosts that my daughter was seeing.

I first told her about the old man, with glasses, who was slightly bald and hunched over. She looked at me and titled her head and said ” Oh my goodness, that sounds like Mr. Kramer. He use to live there and he died of a heart attack in that house many years ago. ” She went to say that he was a very nice man and very kind. She said she was sure he meant no harm to my daughter.

I then told her about the little girl with blond curly hair who kept saying ” tomorrow is my birthday” My landlord took a step back and said ” Dear Lord, a little girl about 4 years old did die upstairs in that house. She had been very ill and she past away the day before her birthday ” She went on to tell me she knew this girl because she use to babysit her. She said she was very sweet and we had nothing to worry about.

Then I told her about the old woman, the one that told my daughter to  ” get out of my house ” Now here my landlord shook her head and said ” That must be Mr. Kramers mother, she was  very evil woman ” She wouldn’t say anything else about her.

We left and my husband and I talked. What should we do? I thought we should move!!! My husband thought we should wait to move, he said moving was expensive and we were not rich, sometimes it really sucks being poor! I knew I was stuck in this house for awhile.

When I got home I researched on ways to get of ghosts. I found many suggestions and I tried them all! From ringing small bells throughout the house, putting salt on the windowsills, praying and telling them to get out! All this did was increase the activity. Things got much worse, everything that was happening before was still going on and now the cupboard doors were opening, windows were opening and closing and little toys would play by themselves. It was insane!

Finally we did move. We felt we had no choice but to move. My daughter would not sleep in her room and I was uneasy in that house. The house itself was lovely but what was in the house nearly drove us crazy! Like I said at the beginning of all of this, I never believed in ghosts and then I moved into this house, now I do believe!!!!

I believe somewhat in ghosts. I think they are lonely spirits who just would like a friend.

I have lived in my fair share of haunted houses as well. Some have been ok while others have been an experience. In one house,2 men with blood on them came out of the bedroom closet. We all refused to sleep in it after that. But im a firm believer in it and have seen enough proof to back it up.I see spirits at work and hear them, but when I go to look and ask if they need help,no one is there.(works in a fitness center)Showers turn on when Iam cleaning them by themselves. I feel sorry for the next tenant of the house, they may get worse then you did.
