Ghosts in Kent Ohio

A few local hauntings in Kent, Ohio.

The Kent Free Library is haunted by Nellie Dingley. She was the very first librarian to work there. She died during WW1 as a nurse. It is not said what room she haunts or when she is usually seen in the library. But she has been sighted nonetheless. The Kent Masonic temple is home to the ghost of Bessie Kent. The Masonic temple was once home to Marvin Kent. Bessie Kent was completely burned alive due to her working with fire in one of the rooms. Some say the ghost is Kitty Kent. She makes her ghostly appearance wearing a flowing white dress.

Also the Kent University Plaza Theatre is haunted. After the theatre has closed for the night, this ghost comes out to play. The theatre manager has reported seeing what seems to be the back of a head of a customer. It is also said strange and unexplained things have happened in the projection room. Footsteps have been heard but the person making the noise has not been seen. Thus saying that a ghost is making the footstep noises.

Kent State University Van Campen Hall is another haunted spot. This ghost’s name is Nathan Richards. Its claimed he spoke to people threw an Ouija board. Nathan claimed he was born in the year 1830 .Nathan was hung for murder in Dayton. Its also said he also haunts the Korb Hall.

Also the Kent State Stuart Hall has been said to be haunted. The Stuart hall was once an abandoned dorm , now vacant since October 2007. Its located on the Kent State campus, not very far from the student center. The windows were broken and there were bars against the doors of the hall. Noises have been heard. A strange light has been seen in a window during the years no one had been living there.

Ghosts are everywhere, but only a few persons can see them.
I myself had seen them about four times in my entire life.
    Very interesting work.

I have to say tonisan60 is right on with their comment. Ghosts and spirits inhabit much of our space. Unfortunately, most people are afraid and unreceptive to seeing and experiencing them. Most often, they are only here briefly after they have passed on. They really do “finish business” before leaving and sometimes this is just their way of lingering because they feel the need to say good-bye.

However, there are those that linger for years on end because they don’t want to leave or can’t leave because they are waiting for someone in their home and have actually been unknowingly left behind.

This is a really neat article, I’m actually currently a student at Kent State, and unfortunately it seems like whatever Stuart Hall was called it’s been renamed…If anyone sees this I’d very much like to know where it was on campus so that I could try to figure it out what it’s current name is, and find out if the hauntings have continued.

Stewart hall was recently rebuilt as part of the honors dorms. I think the hauntings refer to the old stewart hall.
