Ghosts: Real or Not?

This is an article describing my stand point in the age-old ghosts being real or not and why.

Ghosts, ghosts, ghosts…I guess this is technically in impossible question to answer but here it goes…Where to start. I guess I should start by saying that I, personally do not believe in them. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t say that they couldn’t possibly exist: in fact, I would like to believe they exist. The problem I face is that I haven’t had any experiences. Some of you may be thinking “Well you gotta go out and try!” and I have.  I have virtually exhausted my resources for trying to make ghosts come to me or appear. You name it, I’ve done it. Ouija boards, haunted places, cultural specific rituals, urban legends, cemetery’s, etc. I’m not trying to sound like I’m the big ‘ol tough dude who knows no fear but quite frankly, I see nothing to fear

I remember once, while I was spending time in Indonesia, me and a few friends happened upon the subject of ghosts. I don’t know if you all are aware of this but lots of Asians are very believing and superstitious towards these sort of things so, all my friends were saying “yes, they exist, I know they do” while me, being the stubbornish person I am, shaking my head and saying “prove it”. They then re-accounted all their scary stories with each other but, in the end, that wasn’t sufficient proof for me. They then decided to do a sort of Indonesia urban legend which consisted of candles, certain markings that I couldn’t identify, and a doll. The doll was there to supposedly be the vessel of the spirit that would come. We did everything we were supposed to do and guess what? Nothing. All my friends blamed it on me because they said that I wasn’t/ refused to believe but, for one, like I said before, I want to believe and 2, if ghosts and spirits are all that scary or angry, wouldn’t they take advantage of a situation like that and make the non-believer believe? Not sure what it was but nothing happened.

That’s not the only time where things were set-up perfectly and the spirits or ghosts were a no show. I’ve visited haunted places where many of the locals had said they’d seen things or experienced them. Now I’m not going to lie to you, a lot of times when I visit these haunted places, I do get scared and sometimes I get these eerie feelings but, I believe that, that’s all just a part of human body: if you think or imagine that something may be wrong or not right enough, your body will react to it. Sort of like jumping and screaming when you get frightened: even if it’s just your friend, you imagined something was not right and something might hurt you so you screamed.

It just seems to me that too many “facts” about the existence of ghosts seem to rely on experiences. I know there are shows on TV that are supposedly untampered and record voices and noises and things like that but, it’s all just to easy to fake. For example, you know how easy it would be for me to get on camera in a haunted setting and act like I just got pushed by a ghost? Seeing that the ghost’s aren’t caught on tape and when they are it’s so ridiculous (Oh. My. Gosh. did you see that? An ORB OF LIGHT just went into his head!) its unbelievable. Way easy. In fact, I have done it before, just to see if I could fool people: and it worked. It just goes to show that people who say they’ve seen things might have now actually seen anything but only imagined seeing it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say that anyone who says they’ve seen ghosts is a liar; if you’ve seen them, you’ve seen them, but as for me? I’ve still yet to believe.

An enjoyable read. I’m walking the line of whether I believe or not…
