Haunted House: The Lady and The Poltergeist

Experiences of a family living in a house occupied by a spirit and a poltergeist.

If anyone had ever told me I’d be able to sleep in a haunted house, I’d have told them point blank they were out of their ever loving minds! I am Queen of the scaredy cats. I have to have nightlights. I can’t watch horror films at night or home alone. If I do watch a horror film I can’t believe those stupid people stick around for more horror. So, what was I doing living in a haunted house and how was I able to sleep a wink?

The neighbors were thrilled we’d moved in, painted the house and cleaned up in general. We were thrilled to have found the house. It was a two-story house with a Gambrel (barn style) roof and a full basement. Best of all, we could afford it. It isn’t unusual when buying a older home to learn of a death having occurred in it, but knowing how skittish I am, my husband of the time didn’t tell me about the one that happened in ours. Not until I happened to see an apparition of the lovely lady myself.

Hubby, daughter and I were camped out in the living room watching TV one night and, as usual, we all fell asleep. I was on the floor facing toward the staircase banister. I woke up in the darkened room to see a filmy while form gliding down the stairs. It wasn’t clearly defined and I could only see it from the waist up, but I knew it to be female. Before it reached the bottom either it disappeared or I fell back to sleep. I was never sure which happened.

It would be easy enough to attribute the vision to a dream. I pondered that myself. I didn’t even mention it to anyone until the flickering light incident. My daughter and I often spent time together in the bathroom doing girly things. From the time we moved in one of the lights would flicker off for a bit, come back on, go off again, back on and so on until it finally stayed on. We assumed there was a short, but hadn’t gotten around to checking it out. One such time this happened and my daughter said “there he goes again”. I replied to her, “oh no, honey, it’s a she”. The light came back on and never flickered again.

After that I told both my husband and daughter about the apparition. I was then told of the female whose life had ended while in the house. I don’t think, however, she was the truly restless spirit amongst us.
