Hauntings In GERMANY
================
- Babenhausen Barracks (Babenhausen, Germany)
——————————
Called Babenhausen Kaserne in german. This former
Nazi barracks is now a museum. The ghosts of German
soldiers, some in World War II era uniforms, have been
reportedly seen by eyewitnesses. Sometimes lights are
said to turn off and on by themselves with no apparent
reason, and voices are heard coming from the basement
area. Footsteps and commands have also been heard
here at night, supposedly without physical cause.
Legend has it that if a soldier happens to visit the
museum and picks up a telephone, a womans voice is
sometimes heard talking on the other end of the line.
Although her voice can be clearly heard, what she is
saying is unintelligible, in neither the German language
nor English.
The town was the site of a witch burned at the stake in
the 18th century. It is beleived that her ghost seduced
and killed 5 soldiers in the early 1900’s and maybe more
since then.
- Frankenstein Castle (Muhital, Germany)
————————–
This hilltop castle was built in 1250 by the
Frankenstein family. Since being erected, it has served
as a home, a prison, a banquet hall, a restaurant, and
even a hospital. Today the castle is a very popular
tourist attraction, and many people also believe it to be
haunted by ghosts.
Every year, the castle plays host to Europe’s largest
halloween festival. The medieval castle is filled with
people dressed up as ghosts, vampires, witches, and
other monsters. But many people also have reported
seeing ghosts here year round. A US soldier reported
being touched by an unseen hand while he was visiting
the place. Other people report feeling uneasy while
touring the castle, and feeling like someone or
something was watching them. Strange sounds have
also been heard coming from areas of the castle that
were suppose to be unoccupied. Even the TV show
Ghost Hunters International investigated the place.
Although the paranormal activity here is kind of slow
compared to other hauntings, it is still a real cool castle
to check out.
- Reichenstein Castle (Aachen, Germany)
————————-
This 11th-century castle along the Rhine is shielded on
all sides by mountains.
According to local legend, Dietrich von Hohenfels and
his nine sons were robber barons who used the castle
as a stronghold. His sons were caught by the authorities
and killed. Hohenfels was captured the very next day.
When he was shown his dead sons’ bodies, his head
either fell off on its own or was cut off by someone or
something. To this day witnesses have reported seeing
a headless ghost inside of Reichenstein Castle.

“…his head either fell off on its own…” ~ So here’s a chap for whom the saying “I’d forget my own head if it wasn’t attached” is literally true!
