Is the Bermuda Triangle Real?

Explores arguments for and against the existence of a mysterious anamoly in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle.

Hundreds, maybe thousands of ships and planes have been reported missing in the area of the Atlantic Ocean known as the Bermuda Triangle.  Also known as the Devil’s Triangle,  this is a triangular area with points at Bermuda, Miami and Puerto Rico.  But are the legends associated with this area fact or fiction?

Proponents of the idea that mysterious events occur in the Bermuda Triangle point out that ships and planes disappear there for no known reason.  Although they admit that there are many hurricanes and tropical storms in the Triangle, they claim that a great deal of these events occur in mild weather.  Conditions are normal when suddenly there is no more contact with the ship or plane.  Therefore, there must be some kind of anamoly in the Bermuda Triangle.

Debunkers say that there are more accidents involving planes and ships because the Bermuda Triangle contains some of the most traveled shipping routes in the world.  Add to this the fact that hurricanes and tropical storms are common, and of course there is a high accident rate in the Triangle.  In other words, there are thousands more chances for plane crashes and ships sinking in this area because there are thousands more planes and ships in this area.  In addition,  many ships and planes that supposedly vanished without a trace have been found at the bottom of the sea.

I would say that there is only a 45% chance that something mysterious is going on in the Bermuda Triangle.  I have studied the Triangle off and on for almost forty years and I tend to agree with the debunkers.  This is a highly traveled area plagued by a lot of bad weather.  What is troublesome is the number of ships and planes that disappear in very calm conditions.

What do you think?

I was looking for something else when I stumbled upon your article..great post! Vance Lethurin also wrote an article about fact and theories re: The Bermuda Triangle. I’m with you..when a writer noted a ship had disappeared in calm seas, there was a devastating storm in progress..other writers said that ships went missing mysteriously when the remains were found at the bottom of the ocean..then there’s stories about massive twisters sucking-up ships..planes travelling from this world to the world of anti-matter (our solar system)..I think it’s all very interesting but I think some people have watched too many episodes of the Twilight Zone.
