Merlin’s Doomsday Prophecies

There are far more "apocalyptic visions" than the ones that now seem extremely fashionable, featuring Nostradamus or the Mayan Calendar. And they don’t speak about 2012. These Doomsday Prophecies mostly regenerate very ancient symbols of religion, myth and magic. And the stories concerning the End of the World are often linked with a Creation Myth… and the birth of a New World Order.

All prophetic visions draw upon a core tradition of imagery and guided journeys through the Otherworld: we find them with Nostradamus (predicting the End of the World – or a world cycle – not in 2012, but in 3797) as well as in the Mayan Calendar; we find them in medieval literature such as the Merlin and Grail texts as well as in classical and Semitic mythology. There are parallels to be observed, worldwide, in every culture, religion or country. Just as Creation begins beyond and before the stars in the chaotic void, so is the Apocalypse of a stellar nature, and not limited to the purging or redemption of the planet Earth or the human world.

In the medieval Prophecies of Merlin, written by Geoffrey of Monmouth who was in the higher orders of the Catholic Church, we find an apocalyptic vision which doesn’t draw substantially upon the Book of Revelation, but on an ancient Celtic tradition. Probably Geoffrey has rewritten the traditional verses declaimed by a Welsh or Breton bard, ascribed to Merlin, and mixed with Greek astrology. But this type of astrology is quite different of the modern calculations and rigid patterns that are used today. In this vision, the seer has seen the breakdown of the solar system, with special emphasis upon the role of Orion and the Pleiades.

Root & Branch shall change place

and the Newness of the Thing shall pas as a Miracle

and the Brightness of the Sun shall fade at the Amber of Mercury

and Horror shall seize the Beholders

and Stilbon of Arcadia shall change his Shield

and the Helmet of Mars shall call Venus & make Shadow

and the Rage of Mercury shall exceed his Orbit

and Iron Orion shall unsheathe his Sword

and the Marine Phoebus shall torment the Clouds

and Jupiter shall go out of his Lawful Paths

and Venus forsake her Appointed Circuits

and the Malignity of the Star Saturn shall slay Mankind with a Crooked Sickle

and the Twelve Houses of the Stars shall lament the Irregular Excursions of Their Inmates

and the Gemini shall omit Their Usual Embrace

and the Gemini shall call Aquarius to the Fountains

and the Scales of Libra shall hang awry till Aries puts his Crooked Horns under them

and the Tail of Scorpio shall produce Lightning

and Cancer quarrel with the Sun

and Virgo shall mount upon the Back of Sagittarius and darken her Virgin Flowers

and the Chariot of the Moon shall disorder the Zodiac

and the Pleiades shall break forth into Weeping.

No offices of Janus shall return hereafter,

but His Gate shall be shut and lie hidden in the Depths of Ariadne

and the Seas shall rise up in the Twinkling of an Eye,

and the Dusts of the Ancients be restored

and the Four Winds shall fight together with a Dreadful Blast

and their Sound shall reach the Stars.

Interesting article, but no one can predict the end of times. The Bible (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) has already told us that NO ONE knows when Jesus is coming, he will come like a thief in the night. So while the door of opportunity is open you need to get ready. Salvation is a indiviual thing so get saved before it’s too late. What ever your spiritual up bringing is….just know our time is short so get your soul right.ONE thing is true….we are fast approaching the END OF DAYS.

@MMV Abad: Historical accounts disagree whether Merlin is a fictional or historical character.

Quoting Wikipedia: “Merlin is a legendary figure best known as the wizard featured in the Arthurian legend. The standard depiction of the character first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae, written c. 1136, and is based on an amalgamation of previous historical and legendary figures. Geoffrey combined existing stories of Myrddin Wyllt (Merlinus Caledonensis), a North British madman with no connection to King Arthur, with tales of the Romano-British war leader Ambrosius Aurelianus to form the composite figure he called Merlin Ambrosius (Welsh: Myrddin Emrys).”

But according to an article on About.com (http://ancienthistory.about.com/cs/people/a/merlin_2.htm) King Arthurs Merlin was a mix of historical figures….even place names in Scotland and Wales are hinting about him; the real Celtic Merlin was known as Myrddyn and there is a Welsh town of Carmarthan or Caer-Myrddyn.

Great article. All things concerning Merlin and other doom scenarios draw my attention. Personally I do feel that politics and religion seem to go well together in a certain cyclic way.

This is very timely as many are so into the end times and doomsday stuff right now. This could give another perspective.

The ancient “Apocolypse” painting is beautiful and tells a story upon the canvas. I would much rather see the 3797 prediction by Nostrodamus, although Merlins prophecies are also quite thought provoking even if his was a legend of many different historical figures. Very interesting read Patrick. So well wriiten with many links of intrigue.

yeah, we really don’t know when our Almighty God will appear, but before everything is too late, repent my friend and accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior.
