Mirrors: Spirit Portals or Vessels Used to Enable Materialization?
People believe that mirrors are portals into the spirit world, but are they portals or just vessels spirits use to manifest themselves.
I was reading an article the other day in a paranormal magazine and it was talking about mirrors
being portals in which spirits use to come into our world. One opinion or belief is that the mirror must
be very old and stationary. In all the horror movies that has mirrors, the mirror either comes from a haunted
house, is one found in the attic and is very old or is one that is stationary and someone stands before it
and cites some type of chant like in Candy Man or Bloody Mary. Others seem to have the belief that two
mirrors have to be in the same vicinty and facing each other. They have to reflect off of one another for
them to become portals.
Mirrors may very well be portals into the spirit world, I can’t say. I, however, have always believed
that the mirror was a vessel that spirits use in order to manifest. Either way, people are very
superstitious when it comes to mirrors. I, myself, was raised to believe that anyone that broke a mirror
would have seven years bad luck. I think the following belief will explain the reasoning behind that old
superstition. In my family the older generation believed that if a person was dying in the home, that you
had to cover all of the mirrors with a black cloth. If a person died in the home and the mirrors were not
covered, then that persons spirit would go into the mirror and anyone breaking the mirror would release
the spirit and be haunted and tormented by it for seven years. I believe there are other cultures that
have that same belief system.
I’m neither a believer of this old wives tale, nor am I superstitious about breaking a mirror and I will
explain why. I have a real phobia when it comes to mirrors or any other reflective surface (such as blank
t.v. screens, computer screens, anything that can reflect back). There are no mirrors in my house, I took
them all outside and took a hammer to them, then sent them to the recycler. My t.v. is never turned off
and neither is my computer monitor.
We lived in a house that had an unbelieveable amount of paranormal activity. It was almost a daily

That is a cool subject. I like reading about the paranormal and the fact that you brought mirrors into it, kind of creepy. I myself, have to have a mirror so I can look at my pretty face every day. I’m not sure what I would do if some one elses face was looking back at me.
