Ghost Pirates
Savannah’s river port was an important stop for cotton, rice, and tobacco ships in the 18th and 19th centuries. Sailors stayed at inns, and pirates often hung out at one that is now The Pirates’ Home Restaurant. A dark stairway leads to secret underground tunnels where many crimes occurred. Some say they still lurk in the restaurant. Workers reported weird flashing light and footsteps even though no one was there. Some one even claimed to see a ghost pirate walking through a door. “He was dressed in a white ruffled shirt, with a sword at his waist.
Haunted Hotel
In November 1864, General William T. Sherman began his famous march during the Civil War. After he captured Atlanta, Georgia Sherman’s Union troops destroyed everything in their path-until they reached Savannah. There they set up a hospital at the Marshal house, which is now a hotel. Some think that dead soldiers lurk in the hotel. 2 men claimed to see the elevator open but no one was in it. Some also saw an operating room where panicking doctors trying to save the soldiers. Others have reported feeling cold areas-sigh of a ghost being present. Maybe the guests were dreaming- or maybe some soldiers’ spirits are still fighting the Civil War.
Scouting Spirit
Many people get reminded of battles whenever they visit Savannah. But others think of girl scouts in the USA. Julitte Gordon Low, its founder was born in Savannah, 1860. Her childhood home is now a museum, and some believe to be haunted. Sometimes people would report the lights flickering on and off. Others say that they heard parties going upstairs while no one was there. A number of tourists have also seen a lady in the house. Sarah was Low’s grandmother- who may not want to leave the home she once loved.
