Phantom Cats

Sightings of Phantom Cats from around the world.

Phantom cats also known as “Alien Big Cats” (ABC’s) are large felines, such as panthers or jaguars, which have been reported outside their indigenous range. Sightings and tracks have been reported in many countries such as Britain, Hawaii, Finland, Denmark and Australia.

U.K.

Since the 60’s there have been a lot of sightings of Phantom Cats across Britain. Pumas, clouded leopards and lynx have also been captured and or killed.

Australia

In Australia there have been sighting of these Phantom Cats for more than 100 years. In the Gippsland region, it is said that the cats came from World War 2 airmen and were released in the Australian bush. The slaughter of sheep was blamed on the Phantom Cats, which were often killed by a clean slit of puncture and the insides were eaten, the same way big cats kill and eat their prey.

In the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney there have been a few sightings of a panther. Some believe that this panther escaped a circus; an offspring of wildcats brought by gold miners, or escaped from the now closed Safari Park.

Around Tantanoola, a small town in Australia was the stalking ground for the Tantanoola tiger during the late 19th century. In 1895, an animal was shot and was believed to be the Tantanoola Tiger; it was actually an Assyrian Wolf.

There have been some sightings of the big cats stalking the Sunshine Coast, Queensland since early 19th century.

The Netherlands

In 2005, a black cougar was seen by several people but it was later identified as a large crossbreed of a domestic cat and a wild cat.

New Zealand

Since the 1990’s there have been sightings of the Phantom Cats in both north and south islands, sightings of panthers in Mid-Canterbury and in the foothills of the Southern Alps.

Hawaii

Stories of the cats have been circulating around the island of Maui since the 1980’s. In December 2002, the sightings increased in number in the Kula area, the cat was believed to be a Jaguar, Leopard or a Mountain lion and may have been illegally brought to Hawaii. Traps, cameras and trackers failed to capture any large cat.
