Psychics and Hard Times
The Psychic business has risen by 50% in the slow economy. Clients are flocking to them for answers. At $100 for a half hour, their advice does not come cheap.
Psychics are having a boom in business since the economy has slowed down to a crawl. The business has long catered to questions about romance and family but many psychics find most of their clients want to know about business and job opportunities. In fact the economy has not only been good for the psychic business but has changed it altogether. Clients have increased by 50% and are looking for guidance through a trying time of lost homes and lost jobs. At $100 dollars for half an hour this advise does not come cheap.

Rosemary McArthur, founder of the American Association of Psychics, a professional trade organization with more than 100 members said 90% of her clients are asking questions about the economy and what their lives are going to be in the future. She says she tells the brutal truth so don’t ask her if you don’t want to hear it.” McArthur claims she receives direction from a spirit, “Josha, an “ascended master” from biblical times. I tell people it’s not going to be that bad and things will pick up in the summer.” McArthur predicted.
Most psychics say they keep it simple and answer honestly only if the answer will benefit the person. People are looking for answers anywhere they can get them and paying up to $100 and more for half an hour looks like a good investment to them.

It seems to me that charlatans are coming out of the closets to take these desperate folks money.
And what good does it do them except to waste away the little money they have? If bad times are coming a psychic is not going to change anything. The best plan to prepare yourself is to pay off your debts, save all the money you can and get your finances in order. That is as much as anyone can do and a psychic isn’t going to help you with that. In fact they will drain you of what money you have. You are the best person to take care of yourself and probably the only one to do it. So get your house in order and be prepared for the worst but hope for the best. We are a hardy people, we’ve had it rough before and survived , we can do it again.

There certainly are some charlatans out there, and $100 for half an hour is very expensive. As usual you’re giving some good advice.

Sound advice as always, it’s an unfortunate, and for me surprising, sign of the times.

Well written article Ruby. But i don’t believe in psychic’s, and sure wouldn’t ever pay one for any advice. You would be better off throwing your money out the window than paying these people a dime. Just my personal opinion though.

Ruby,
You are right. The psychic reading should boom during these difficult times. Moreover the cost will be always higher for any psychic reading no matter when you want to get one for yourself.
If you feel that it is not affordable, then just don’t take it. People who can afford continue to take this reading from them.
I have noted one reader called Erin Palina who also charges high. You can check out here blog here:
http://www.erinpavlina.com/blog/
It is worth the money but before that one should realize the importance of a reading.

Much better for them to buy $100.00 on groceries to stock up. i don’t believe in this actually they make me a bit angry and the people that go to them are just wasting their time looking for answers that are not there. Great Article Ruby!

I had no idea people were doing this, it is like taking your last dollar to play the lottery. I loved the way you ended the article. This a a really good one, Ruby.

Oh Ruby, you are so wise. I agree with you wholeheartedly. If you’re in the midst of a financial crisis, that $100 has a far better use than to go to some psychic. Excellent article.

Grreat article, Ruby! I don’t think people should spend so much money going to a psychic. There is no guarantee that what they say will happen and then the money is gone. I think that the psychics are taking full advantage of the fact that people want help so they will make their prices sky high knowing that these people who are desperate for advice will pay it.

I know our pics are limited here and really wouldn’t mention this but, the pic is of Edgar Cayce and he did his readings for free, much to his demise, it wore down on his health, and marriage, I think he thought he was helping cure people,

Fantastic article – I wasn’t aware of the psychic “boom”
It is interesting to note that spirituality (in many forms) is on the increase – particularly when peoples backs are against the wall and they begin to question the agenda, ineptitude and deception from our “leaders” who we have been allowed to amass an inoridate amount of power over our lives.
It is only modern western civilisations who have become so isolated from what I believe is a natural spirituality – spirituality (not necessarily organised or recognised religion) that has been so important throughout the history of the human.
I hate fact that the inevitable charlatans are cashing in on peoples confusion and fear though.

Very interesting subject Ruby. I can not believe that psychics have had such a boom in business. I guess people are desperate for some good news.

Thanks to all of you my friends. I appeciate all your input. I can’t tell you enough how happy you make me. This is a time to watch out for vultures. When people are scared they let their guard down.
Cassandra, It is a picture of Edgar Cayce. And you are correct, he was a sincere man who believed in what he was doing. He didn’t have to be face to face with the person to give a reading and he did it for free. He ruined his health trying to help people. I used his picture from the suggested pictures. As you know they don’t have a very good choice. Maybe I shouldn’t have.

Years ago, I knew a man who claimed to be a psychic reader. However, he also said that is was wrong to take money for a reading. (He earned his cash by teaching classes about the history of esoterica.) $100 seems a lot to pay for a few words–but then, that’s what we get from psychiatrists/counselors also, right? Like the rest of you, I think I can find better things to do with my hard-earned cash: such as buying some more store-dirt for my garden, or saving for the month when I don’t earn enough to pay the mortgage or something like that.

There are genuine readers and psychics out there, some have set rates and are certainly not in the $100 bracket, and the genuine one’s sometimes waiver a fee if they know the person has to know the ‘message’, some do not charge at all. I know of cases that have been solved in the police field, no money changed hands. It is a shame that all psychics are being seen in the same light, as there are some who do not look for stardom or to be famous, they genuinely have a gift. Interesting article, interesting topic.
