So You Don’t Believe in Conspiracy Theories?

If I can describe enough conspiracies that turned out to be true will you stop describing everything as “just a conspiracy theory”?

In the past few years have you ever discussed with friends, acquaintances, work colleagues etc., topics such the destruction of the “Twin Towers on 9 – 11”. Or how about the CIA being involved in some shifty undercover operation that the American government firmly denies?

Well, if you are like me and you do say very gently that the facts suggest some government involvement or at least some involvement of people or organisations in high places you will be used to the hoots of derision and cries of “Hear this boys; we’ve got another conspiracy theorist here!”

Well I finally got fed up with that response. For two principal reasons. Firstly, as soon as people say “conspiracy theory” their minds stop working. They don’t have to find arguments against your carefully constructed points – after all it’s just a conspiracy theory. Your ideas are filed immediately under the heading “Crank” and your listeners are absolved from all other thoughts.

Secondly, they appear to have an almost childlike faith in the workings and morality of government and/or powerful organisations. That faith is certainly not merited. Indeed it is such faith which allows many of the dark deeds of covert operations to take place and their perpetrators to function. Such perpetrators rely on the public’s scoffing “That’s just a conspiracy theory” to get away with it!

So I decided to do something about this. I armed myself with a list of what at one time were thought to to be just silly conspiracy theories but which are now known and accepted by historians to be absolutely true. I reasoned that if I could show people that in the recent past governments or large ‘respectable’ organisations had not shied away from taking innocent lives when it suited them, those same people might be more willing to accept that it is still happening today.

So I started to compile my list. And it grew longer and longer and more and more frightening. And some of the details connected to certain conspiracies were certainly astonishing. The conspiracies involved governments, NGO’s, politicians, and corporations. But they all had one thing in common – they were all true; they had all actually happened. Here are a few of the more remarkable ones with some of the details about them.
