Spider Gates Cemetery

This is a true story about a supposedly haunted cemetery named Spider Gates.

Spider Gates is located in western Massachusetts. Also known as the Quaker cemetery, nicknamed Spider gates for the web like steel gates that are on the front of the cemetery. You could also research the cemetery online simply by typing in Spider gates.

I heard the rumors of this cemetery being haunted. Supposedly this is a boy who hung him self quite some time ago. Cults practicing devil worship there at night, and I read online one girl talking about the ghost of the boy who hung himself making himself visible and following them. As they proceeded to check out this small haunted private cemetery, which is supposed to have naturally formed 13 gates the last one leading you to hell. I was informed that a gatekeeper of some sort would be near the first gate warning you off. I was in college at Worcester State. Which is just about a 10-minute drive from the cemetery.

We had received permission from the Quakers who owned the cemetery during the daytime to do research for school. A small group of us set out to look for this place at night. I followed the directions exactly and never found it. We went the following day and there off to the side of this road down a narrow dirt path there it was. Not much to look at in the daytime I suppose but they’re a lot of trails leading into trees covered areas. We walked the trail one of them led into this field with nothing around it we joked about the 13 gates saying that it was a bunch of crap. When we were going to turn around to leave a man’s voice said what are you kids doing here? As we turned to look it was an old man with his dog. They came out of this field that was in the middle of the woods. We told him that we had permission to be there and he told us no we did not.

We may have permission to visit the cemetery but we weren’t in the cemetery anymore. We then told the man ok and we proceeded to leave when I turned around to see where he came from and he was gone. It must have not even been 30 seconds after he was just talking to us. Was he the gatekeeper? A few days later we revisited the cemetery because we were curios as to where he came from or went to so quickly. Ill tell ya check out that place for yourself sometime if you are a thrill seeker. I walked that cemetery that next day and could not find that open field again. No matter how hard I searched.

alright, i got a true story for you. so about 5 years back, i went with family during the day to visit the cemetery. i brought a video camera and was filming all sorts of things. nothing unusual. it was actually quite peaceful. as we left, we stood outside the gates. my grandpa and stepmom starting waving at the cemetery, saying, “Goodbye! Bye! Thank you! Goodbye!” because they were trying to convince me there was a ghost. of course i didn’t believe them… that’s nonsense! we began walking back down to the car when my dad’s cell phone rings. he stated it was an unfamilar ring.

you know how on flip cell phones, the outside screen has the time and date, etc, and when someone calls, it tells you? his phone was normal on the outside. it said the time and date, but was still ringing. he flipped it open, and i remember this like it was yesterday, and on the inside was a white background with blue italicized letters saying “goodbye”. he shut the phone, then opened it and it stayed the same. supposedly when a paranormal being is around, electronics could possibly die. i went to turn on the video camera, but it suddenly died. i caught about one second of it on tape. as we got to the car, the inside of the cell died, but the outside worked. my grandpa rolled down his window, but it stopped working and wouldn’t roll back up. as we got off the road that led to the cemetery, near the hotdog place, the windows worked fine, and the cell completely died.

This is a very bad place, a group of psychics is rumored to have went in and all of them left so distraught they would never go back and warned anyone who went there to “play around with ghosts” that they were in serios danger. A mistic catholic priest once stated that this was a very evil place to go looking for spirits. One should go to such places in a state of prayer and grace, not to arouse things that are evil and could harm them or someone else.

I heard the rumors about the psychics, the priest is a new one for me. Is it true about the gates leading to hell? I saw some stuff on u tube about it.

I agree with templer, you must be drenched in prayer when honoring the dead in a place that has a history of strange events. If your not a family member or close friend of someone who is resting, there should be no reason for you to go.

I lived about 2-3 miles from there for 30 years and never heard anything about 13 gates or any leading to hell. Some of my high school friends had a bizarre experience there once. I think it is an urban legend.

a paranormal team out of rhode island went to investigate it and agreed with me its folklore and a made up legend.it has the perfect isolated location for supernatural alleged going ons but some hs kids started this rumor way back in the 60s to ward off other teenagers so they could have it as a private partying spot and lovers lane sort of place.this is all according to one report from a website addressing the issue of this cemetary.

My daughter and I went to Spider Gates yesterday. We entered from behind the Worcester Airport down a rocky path, we came upon a man and woman walking a small dog, not sure if we were in the correct location we stopped and asked them if we are near Spider gates, the man said yes, its approx 500ft down the path. As we were walking down the path I heard the wind howling, and something brushed against the right side of my neck ( there was nothing near me as I was walking) …… it was a bit creepy. We proceeded down the path and found Spider Gates, my daughter did not enter the cemetary but stood outside its gates and took pictures. I opened the small gate, entered the cemetary and took several pictures then we left. As we were walking back up the path to go to our vehicle. We stopped for a moment to catch our breaths, as we did I “heard” the creaking of the gates slam shut. ( now mind you when we left the cemetary I shut the gate as I exited the cemetary). My daughter looked at me and we bolted to the vehicle. Is Spider gates haunted, not sure…. but i heard and felt something that I thought was a little bit unusual. Let’s just say I won’t be going back without a few more people next time. PS… this is a very peaceful cemetary , what probably makes it so creepy is that it sets way back from the roads deep in the woods.

here is only one actual gate. myth has it that the other ones are “natural gates”, or obstacles, a river, stone walls, stuff like that. Satanists are in no way permitted to use the grounds (although, they do.). It is owned (and still used) by the friends group of leicester ( a quaker group).

As far as the gate to hell goes:
It was rumored to have opened in the 1700’s when an innocent man was accused of murder, and buried alive in the cemetery as punishment. There are several reports of “gate keepers”. One being an old man who tells people they are not suppose to be here, and the other being a child who follows people, and keeps an eye on them.

Is it haunted? I believe it is. I have heard many people say that its just another cemetery, and just as many saying that they went there once, and will never go back again because of what they saw.

I have been there several times. I have not yet seen anything, but i only go there during the day to avoid problems with the police. Myself, and everyone I have gone with have all experienced a strong feeling of not being wanted, and a pressure in our throats as soon as we enter the cemetery.

It is a truly beautiful place. Like any other cemetery it should be respected. If you do decide to go, only go during the day, and do not ask directions from locals (they do not like people going there). It is located on Mulberry Rd. in Leicester, MA. It is directly behind Worcester Airport, and you can park on the side of the road.

I went there (at night), it’s not haunted at all. First off we ended up getting lost for a good hour in the woods before even finding the right path. The only creepy thing there was a swamp we walked by on the path.

The cemetary itself only has one gate… Nothing felt eerie or creepy, it was small and there were no caves/voices/ghosts/ect. All in all it was a waste of time.

i belive in the ghosts…..but i have never been their and never want to go….the gatekeeper thing and the gates really caught my attention though….what would the man with the dog say if you said \\\”i want to go through the gates\\\” sombody do it and let me know xD i\\\’ll never go their ever….even though i belive spider gates is a peacfull place where only goodness happens…what would an official say if i walked in wearing my pentagram necklace…first i am NOT a satian worshiper…so don\\\’t comment on that..for one thing i don\\\’t think the gates at that place look like spider webs they look more like a sun with rays flowing off of it

Me and some friends went the other night and saw or hear nothing. I think its just a myth. Theres only 1 gate not 8 or however many peoply say. This place wasnt haunted or anything. Just an ordinary cemetary deep in the woods. We walked around for 2 hours trying to find the supposivly other cemetarys but did not encounter anything. In all i think its just a legend.

went there 1 winter night. just because you dident see something the 1 time u went dosent mean nothing is there years of ghost hunting have taught me you may go somewhere 1 time and be blown away then go back and see nothing or vice versa. best evidence i came accross was on plain meeting house rd. r.i. walk through these places by yourself at midnight before u pass judgement. or go three nights with others. and yes the multiple gates referred only 1 can be seen with the naked eye.good luck.

Actually, my ancestors the Southwicks and the Earles are buried there. It is a family cemetary and is not haunted–people are making this crap up and it’s ridiculous. I don’t believe your story and people like you disrespect the meaning of final resting places. Sure it’s spooky–it’s a freaking cemetary! But no spookier than any other cemetary. And the claims of people hanging themselves and whatnot have all been debunked. My grandfather will be buried there soon. Stop spreading these ridiculous stories.

Just a question to Erin. I have been reading all of these stories. They all say the most recent burial was in 2000. It is now 2010. Are you still saying there is still family alive that are the rightful owners of this cemetery. And could it be that the people that have not encountered anything could somehow be related to the family buried here?…This cemetery is extremely interesting to me and I hope to do some extensive research on it this summer *says with an uneasy feeling*. I have also read many stories of the little boy following you around…How is this explained?

Part of me agrees with Erin. I have been there before to pay my respects and found stones with the last names.I also went to prove something. I do believe he is right I am not going to lie like some paranormal teams but in my eyes things can be rumors and some can be true facts. Like when my team went one of my ex members felt something in front of him. I don’t believe him only because he didn’t give any shots on camera or gesture me to do so and this was outside of the gate to the cemetary. Now though I believe Erin I have to believe the other side but I hope you know Erin that some people see things differently. Who knows what it was before it was a cemetary as well. Some of what people see may not be from the area itself but from what it was before. All I got on film was orbs but it could have been something else. No audio, or video. So I just say this to those who are interested. Be respectful and understand that you have to look at facts too from fiction. Hanging Tree well who knows back in the earlier years but it is still Erin’s ancestors and though if my family was buried there instead I’d say just be safe to all the people who go there you have to see Erin’s point of view. And one more thing I am not attacking anyone in this message I look up to other thrill seekers into the paranormal but just realize that you need to look at the past even further if need be. Not to mention a police officer told us about murders where people park and body’s tossed near by so there is another thing to look at. Erin I apologise for your recent loss, I know how it feels deeply. And I also apologise for interupting anything by going in there at the time I thought it was just a normal so called spook walk.
