The legend of Stull Cemetery, Kansas.
Stull cemetery located about 18 miles from Lawrence, Kansas has a horrifying tale. The residents there call it The Seventh Gateway To Hell. There is a stairway there that can only be seen on certain nights, it appears behind the old church and if you dare to start to go down the stairs they say you are dragged down to the “bottomless pit”.
The town of Stull, where the cemetery resides has a population of less than 20. The cemetery is located on Emmanuel Hill, where supposedly, paranormal events have been occurring for many years. It is asserted that this cemetery is one of the two places on earth where the devil appears twice a year. People that have visited this cemetery claim to have memory loss after their visit, one visitor said he was grabbed by something unknown .

So, what is so specific about this cemetery, why does the devil appear here? An article that appeared in the Kansas City Times in 1980 states that in the 1850’s a man allegedly stabbed the mayor to death in the cemetery’s old stone barn. This barn was converted into a church years later and then the church burned. There is also a old crucifix that hangs in that church and it is rumored that it sometimes turns upside down when someone steps into the church at midnight.
Other stories claim that the devil will visit this cemetery the last night of winter and first night of spring. The reason stated for the visit is that he goes there to visit the grave of an executed witch.
The townspeople refrain from talking about this and they refuse to talk about the cemetery but they do make it clear they don’t want outsiders in their cemetery.
A book called “Haunted Kansas” by Lisa Hefner Heitz, contains some more stories about Stull.
