Teen Werewolves- The New Clique
Teen Werewolves in San Antonio High School.
High schools always have their typical cliques: jocks, goths, nerds, cheerleaders, but lately, werewolves? Are you serious? Remember the South Park episode- where the girls were dressed up as vampires because they were into Twilight. And the goth kids show up, saying that unlike “the Twilight vampires”, they’re not posers. It’s kind of like that.
In San Antonio, there’s a group of teens who call themselves the members of the “wolf pack”. This is all Twilight’s fault. Some say it’s extreme expression, but others say that it’s just an artistic way to socialize with people. One of the mothers said that it’s not a bad thing. “If this is my son’s worst, then I am blessed”. Perhaps, this “wolf pack” clique aren’t as threatening as they sound. They do look rebellious with their Hot Topic clothes and accessories, but what is it that makes them different from the goths, emos, or punks? Two flares in their appearance that make them distinguishable from their similar cliques are their fake fangs and their contacts -two things that make them look more like “werewolves”. I wonder if they gather around in the full moon. Their social cirlce had gave them a sense of belonging; their friendship seems mutual and peaceful. What do they feed upon?Violence? Who knows? The media doesn’t always show the true nature of a clique like the “wolf pack”. If I lived near their place, I would probably join their clique just to learn about their ways. Conformity is a strong word; they don’t conform to society’s norms, but they conform to what is considered “cool” and “popular” these days. Like in the South Park episode, goths may be angered by their Twilight-influenced neighbors, but where do we cross the line between the dark side and another dark side?
