The Brain Conspiracy

Just a theory I came up with after watching Russell Crowe’s award winning portrayal of the schizophrenic Mathematician John Nash. It made me wonder whether our perception of reality is just our mind projecting images it wants us to see, as was the case with Nash.

(Inspired by the movie ‘A Beautiful Mind’)

Everyone wants better powers of visualization. Engineers, fashion designers, artists and architects all know their professional work and progress is directly benefitted by a better power of visualization. In fact now-a- days new born babies are made to listen to Mozart and Bach so as to engender better growth and circulation in those areas of their brain which control the same.

Now my question to you is simple. What if our brains are already replete with significant powers of imagination? Cave paintings and other rudimentary art have been found and by carbon dating determined to have been the creations of early man, the earliest of which being the cave paintings of Lascaux which date back 17,000 years. Our manners no doubt have improved since then and we do today think of better reasons to kill each other, well slightly better reasons, than was the case 17,000 years ago. But surely our brains have also evolved since then. The human brain not only consumes a lot of the blood produced by the body, since it remains in a semi-active state even when the rest of you sleeps, it’s also the only real intelligent, thinking part of our body.

What if our ability to picturize shapes and colours is so advanced that everything we see around us is actually just a mental picture. What if we can all analyze complex structures and dimensions to the micron, come up with prose and poetry and intricate art, and theorems and equations and trusses and arches and conflicts and war and ceasefires and new weapons and shields and natural beauty and love and sex and induced highs all on by ourselves. What if the human brain is so advanced that it just makes up all these things on its own accord. Makes them up, probably in groups because of course these autonomous units in our heads can communicate. All these things, these pointless, useless things which distract us and consumes our days, fill up the dates on our calendars and become our year’s objectives, all these DISTRACTIONS that prevent us from realizing what matters, what gives actual real and fulfilling happiness. These distractions which keep us bound to a constant cycle of creation and destruction. And you can’t deny it because you know, no matter what you’re doing, there’s always more to life, but you don’t know what that is?! Morpheus said it best: What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.
