The Paranormal: Unexplained Communication

The paranormal is a term often used to describe some events humans cannot explain. Here is one of those events where communication did take place, but how it occurred cannot be explained.

The cries of distress coming from the bedroom across the hall woke the children.  It was still dark.  Early summer.

They heard their father’s voice trying to comfort their grief-stricken mother. She was not to be consoled easily.

The spontaneous emotion was uncharacteristic of Pearl, a woman of strong will, a likely consequence of being the only daughter raised with nine brothers.

A few hours later, she had to force herself to concentrate on preparing breakfast for her husband and their three pre-teen children.  She tried to not let the children see her raw emotions just beneath the surface.

Her husband had agreed to help a neighbor that morning fix a tractor.  He was a mechanic, much respected in their wilderness farm neighborhood for his skill, generous nature and integrity.

After breakfast, she walked her husband to their car, parked on the bare dirt driveway next to their home. Their remote farm was without electricity, telephone, or conventionall water and sewer services.

Her eyes were still red and swollen from crying since before dawn.

“I don’t know what came over me, Johnny” Pearl said.

“Are you going to be okay while I go help Mike?” John asked, as he gave her a warm protective hug.  He was not shy about showing how much he loved his wife.  “I shouldn’t be long.  I’ll get back as soon as I can.”

“I don’t know what’s going on,” she replied.  “In my dream I saw a coffin.  It was like it was slowly floating by in front of me.

“I have this terrible feeling of dread, of losing someone . . . family.   I still feel it.  I’m scared.  It’s like when my brothers were killed.”

Two of Pearl’s brothers died during the Second World War.  Both were in the navy. One died when the ship he was on was torpedoed by a Nazi submarine and sank off the coast of Gibraltar, the other was swept overboard during a fierce storm near Bermuda after giving his lifejacket to a buddy who couldn’t swim.

“I’ll be back just as soon as I can,” John repeated.  He held her tight to him.
