The Scariest and Most Haunted Places in the State of Massachusetts
The state of Massachusetts is one of America’s oldest and most haunted states. Here is a list of some of the scariest and most paranormally active places in the state.
The Houghton Mansion is also home to the Berkshire Paranormal Group. Who continually research and investigate the paranormal at the mansion. Building tours are available and if you want to do your own private ghost hunt here, the building is available to private functions, for a fee of course.
It is unknown if Mr. Houghton, his daughter Mary, or their chauffeur John Widders still reside the Houghton Mansion. But one thing for sure is that something is still here haunting the place.
House of the Seven Gables (Salem, Massachusetts)
The House of the Seven Gables, also known as the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion, is located at 54 Turner Street in Salem, Massachusetts. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also rumored to be haunted by a few ghost.
The building was built in 1668 by the Turner family. It is one of the oldest surviving 17th century wooden mansion homes in all of New England. After one of the Turner sons lost the family fortune, the Ingersoll family purchased it from the Turners. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s cousin, Susan Ingersoll lived in the house until she was 72 years old. It was here that Hawthorne visited her often, and his experiences at the house inspired him to write the novel “The House of the Seven Gables”.
Many people believe that Susan Ingersoll is still here and that her ghost is one of the spirits haunting the place. People have reported seeing the ghost of an elderly woman in the hallways and peering out some of the windows as well. Another ghost that is rumored to haunt the attic of the building is that of a little boy. He has been heard playing in the attic and also running up there too.
One unfortunate thing about this place is that they don’t allow ghost hunting here. They also do not allow pictures to be taken while inside of the building. Even with these restrictions, it is still a very interesting place to visit and check out sometime.
Plymouth Lighthouse (Gurnet Point, Plymouth, Mass.)
Plymouth Lighthouse was first built way back in 1769. It was built on the property of John and Hannah Thomas, whom became the lighthouses first keepers. John was killed during the Revolutionary War, leaving Hannah as America’s first woman lighthouse keeper. It is believed that her spirit still visits this lighthouse to this day.

Okay so all these reports are convincing. But the Salem one sounded a little suspicious. Why would the owners or whatever it is called not let any hunts be held? Paranormal activity can help solve the problem, right?

The Houghtlin Mansion in North Adams is haunted. I went with my ex girlfriend to look at it and I had a bad feeling and it was at night when we looked at it. I told her I saw something looking out the window. No one was in there at all though. So I do say there is something that is there.

i live in a 1640’s house in plymouth MA. its very obviously haunted. ive seen ghosts, ive talked to them, and they’ve talked to me. i know of 3 in my house. there is a mother, father, and little girl. the little girl likes to laugh and play the piano in my living room. the mother and father enjoy sitting around the kitchen table, which has been restored and was the original house table. i don’t want any paranormal investigations done because i feel it would upset the family. we livepeacefully in the house. they’ve come to understand that since their passing, families have moved in and used their home. they seem to welcome almost everyone with open arms. but, if they feel your here to do only bad, they will certainly mess with you.
