The Survivors of Hell’s Fire: Victims of a Mysterious Combustion

On the morning of July 19, 1980, a 31-year-old woman living in Toronto woke to find that severe second-and third-degree burns had developed on her thighs and abdomen. So extensive were they that it took six months of painful skin-graft operations to repair the wounds. Yet whatever created the burns had left no marks on the woman’s nightclothes or bed linen.

This extraordinary story is from the files of Larry E. Arnold of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Arnold has devoted many years to investigating the bizarre and, so far, inexplicable phenomenon known as spontaneous human combustion (SHC).

When the Impossible Happens

Most medical scientists refuse to acknowledge that SHC exists. They insist that it is impossible for the human body to burst into flames; there must be another, more rational explanation, they claim. But Arnold and a few like-minded investigators have accumulated a fascinating amount of case material on the subject.

From evidence assembled to date, it is assumed that most victims of SHC burn to death, quickly, quietly, and nearly completely. The police and scientists are left with few clues regarding the precise circumstances surrounding the demise. But there are a fortunate few, such as the woman in Toronto, who survive. Of these cases, one of the most mysterious is the story of Jack Angel.

Jack Angel’s case has been debunked. There’s more info on it in this article: http://www.csicop.org/si/show/not-so-spontaneous_human_combustion/
But long story short, in 1975, he claimed to have been sprayed by scalding water after trying to repair his motorhome’s water pressure.
Spontaneous Human Combustion is an interesting notion, but most times there is a completely valid explanation (whether you want to believe it or not) or it is a hoax.

What’s with the basically unrelated pics stuffed in between every paragraph? Makes it hard to read, which may not be a bad thing I suppose.
Is this a pictorial or an article? It doesn’t do either very well.
