The Visitor

Description of encounters with a spirit or ghost and how we encouraged it to leave.

This time last year, I was dealing with what I call the “visitor”. My home was inhabited by a ghost or spirit. I didn’t particularly believe in ghosts before the arrival of the “visitor”, but I am fairly open-minded and accepting of the fact that there are tons of things/events that we just can’t prove/explain with our normal arsenal.

My mother-in-law has all kinds of “non-traditional” beliefs. She had visited us in early October last year. The first encounter was experienced by my husband three days after my mother-in-law had gone back home.

My husband got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. He was positioned at the toilet and suddenly the door to the bathroom just flew open. My husband immediately ran to the door and looked behind it, thinking that it was me or one of the kids up in the middle of the night. But, I was still snoozing in bed and the kids were tucked in their rooms as well. My husband is very skeptical, but he was extremely rattled.

A few days later, I had my own experience with the visitor. I was visiting with my husband and out of the corner of my eye I saw the feet of our large door hanger Frankenstein Halloween decoration go straight up in the air over his head and then suddenly drop straight down – just as if someone was holding them up and then dropped them. I literally screamed out loud when this happened.

It was after this event that we decided that we had a “visitor” of some kind. I wasn’t afraid, just a bit nervous. And, being the detail-seeker that I am, I was really curious about “who” the visitor was.

I called my mother-in-law and asked if she was missing a companion. She assured me that she had not left a spirit behind. I think she was pleased as punch that my husband and I were interested in some of her beliefs though.

My father-in-law had passed away about one year prior, and his birthday was in October – so he was one “candidate”. My dad had also passed on – many years earlier though. Our house was built on what was once Native American Indian land – so we thought it could have something to do with that as well.
