The Visitor
Description of encounters with a spirit or ghost and how we encouraged it to leave.
Things went along quietly for a few days and then I had another experience. As I entered the house in the middle of the day from grocery shopping, I heard voices in the living room. As I continued down the hall toward the living room, I heard one of the voices go, “SSSHHHH.” I was pretty nervous and searched the entire house with my cellphone in hand, just in case an actual person was in the house – but I didn’t find anyone.
My mother came for a visit a few days after that. I hadn’t shared any info about the “visitor” with her. Then one afternoon we were visiting in the living room and the door to the master bedroom just slammed shut. My mom and I both took off down the hall to investigate. The hairs on her arms where standing straight up. We didn’t find anyone there and I said, “I guess it was the visitor,” and I told her about the unexplained events we had been experiencing.
My mom’s eyes grew as wide as saucers. She said that she hadn’t wanted to say anything because she didn’t want to scare me, but she had felt someone standing next to her when she was in the playroom upstairs.
Because the “visitor” had become stronger – slamming a door, I was getting a little nervous about it. I didn’t want it to harm my children or my husband and me. I was scheduled to leave town for a few days, and I definitely didn’t want to have anything happen while I was gone.
So, I talked to my mother-in-law and did some additional research about getting rid of spirits. I decided to try something really simple and just tell the spirit to leave. I went into every room of the house and told the “visitor” that I didn’t wish it harm, but that this was my family’s home now and I needed it to leave immediately. I must admit that I felt fairly silly talking to “empty” rooms of my house.
After my “speeches”, we didn’t experience any more encounters with the “visitor”. So I guess it worked. We did hear odd noises from time to time – but there was never anything that was clearly the work of our “visitor”.
We sold that house last spring and moved cross country – I often think about those experiences and still wonder who the “visitor” was.
