Was It a Ghost?
How sure can you be about what you saw?
“I was so shocked to see the coach and horses in the side mirror that I pulled over.”
I posted that on a website I spend a lot of time on. Its a football site, but we talk about football only 10% of the time. Someone had asked for ghost stories so I told mine. I was driving home, heard a noise out of no where and looked in my side mirror. There was the coach and horses. Then as I pulled over it had gone. I pressed post and sat back waiting for the banter and abuse to start, but was surprised by the result.
Most other people started of by writing “I don’t believe in ghosts, but….” and then relayed their experiences. A lot were very sad and revolved round the death of a relative. Usually seeing or hearing the person and then getting the call to say that they had passed away.
There was no mocking or laughing, but a few tried to give explanations. “It was dark” “you were still half a sleep”, “you were upset and wanted to see it”. As more people realised they were not going to be criticised they started to add their own stories.
The man who stayed with a friend when his friends girlfriend died and saw her in the bathroom. He could not explain why she appeared to him and not her boyfriend who was distraught at losing her.
The man whose grandmother called out her pet name for him just minutes before he got the call to say she had died almost a 100 miles away.
I added a couple more I had been told about. My grand dad saw a lady disappear as she was crossing a bridge. The man coming the other way saw it as well. It was the 1920’s and both men had thought it more strange that a woman had been out on her own!!!
My father questioned my mother as to why she sat next to the crying woman in the church they were touring when there were so many empty pews. My mother insisted she did sit in an empty one. He also mentioned the woman in another church who sat in an alcove reading. No one else saw her.
The one I forgot is the one that scares me most. A family friend lost her sister a few weeks after her first child was born. They arranged to stay in the house with the remaining brother until after the funeral. Their young daughter was in the bedroom they were using and the sisters body was in her coffin in a smaller room. They put the baby to bed and settled down for the evening.
Suddenly they heard footsteps across the landing and her husband and brother ran up the stairs. Although they could not see anything, both bedroom doors were open despite being tightly closed a little while earlier.
Their only explanation was that she wanted one last look at her niece.
I still doubt myself sometimes with my own story, yet wonder with so many having the same sort of experience could it have been a vision from the past? I have checked ghost stories and sightings in Liverpool and its not mentioned. I have researched (briefly) coach accidents and none are shown in the area.
So I am left wondering did I imagine it or not, and whether ghosts do exist or not.
Anyone able to show me any proof either way?
