A Man and a Legend: Che Guevara

A piece of writing about part of Che Guevara’s legendary and controversial life.

After fleeing with his small group of men to Congo, Che was invited back by Castro to go to Bolivia on an offer by the Bolivian government. The experience was not nearly as appealing as the invitation. But Che took this as an opportunity to expand guerrilla warfare across the globe and distract the U.S. attention from Vietnam. Essentially, Che Guevara wanted to start a third world war. This became very apparent and Che was wanted by the U.S. and the Bolivian government. He was caught by the Bolivian military and on October 9 shot nine times until he was killed.

Che Guevara did many things for many purposes and that leaves his legacy a hard one to follow. One of the most controversial things about his life was his involvement, with Castro, in executing many Cubans after they took over the island. Although he is dead, he still lives among the millions of minds of young revolutionaries. Che Guevara did not fully complete his goal of destroying the U.S. but along the way, he helped to make a revolution in Cuba with his work and his fighting. It is up to the person who is looking at it to decide whether Che’s intentions were good or bad. No matter what though, you cannot take away that Che Guevara knew how to get things done and has earned the respect of millions of people around the world.

Thank you for helping me to learn more of this man who I have always heard of but never knew much about. Your writing has given me a nice summary of some of the major points in his “career” and life and especially has made clear the reason why he is and was such a controversial figure.

It seemed he wanted justice, but maybe you cant fight injustice with more of the same…?

    keep writing luketheduke.
