Actors are People Too

by Elmbonsai in People, March 27, 2008

Imagine if your every move was being watched.

One thing that chaps my hide is when I am standing in line at the grocery store waiting to check out and I get bombarded by all of those magazines that give Hollywood updates.

Actors are tools!

I don’t mean this in the pop-culture term, that they all dress and act alike, but in the fact that they are hired to portray a character and play out this character for a certain amount of time and that’s it!

Why do people care about these actors personal lives?

Who they are on TV isn’t who they are in real life, I assumed this was common knowledge, but it seems common knowledge isn’t so common anymore.

I suppose the interest in the actors personal lives has to do with people wanting to be like their favorite actor, yet their favorite actor isn’t who they appear to be.

Imagine if these people were to get their wish, they would be plagued with people wanting to get that extra tidbit of personal information that they can then use to mold themselves around.

I wouldn’t want that life well, if you paid me!

Don’t get me wrong I love movies and pre reality TV, but when I watch Hawkeye pierce (M*A*S*H) crack jokes I know that Alan Alda is just reading lines, he does however do it very well which is why Alda will always be known for this character and has been cursed with dreaded type casting nobody likes. Take Dustin Diamond, poor little Screech from “Saved by the Bell”, I can’t even imagine the type cast hell he must be in. What about Marlon Wayans the type casted goofball brother of Keenan, he played an excellent drama character in “Requiem for a Dream, which proves that a good actor can play any role you give them.

In a class by himself there’s Jeff Goldblum, he is probably the same guy in person as he is in his movies considering he “plays” the same character in every movie and TV appearance!

Anyway my point was to show the large gap between actors and the characters they play, their characters are anything but who the actor really is, the actors role should be enjoyed as entertainment, if you want to show your interest in a certain actor, buy their movies and TV shows; as far as the the actors personal life goes, they should be treated with respect and left alone!

Next time your reading about how what’s her face is doing what’s his name or that so and so gained X amount of weight or has revealing photos taken from their recent vacation; remember this next time your relaxing, if you were an actor you would have to second guess every situation and even then you couldn’t be truly sure if you could let your guard down enough to really relax.
