Amy Whinehouse Joins The 27 Club

Is dying at 27 just the age limit for some musicians or is there more to it than that?

Amy Whinehouse died recently under unknown circumstances.  However, if you’re familiar at all with her past it would not be difficult to draw a few conclusions as to her cause of death.  She is now another name on the long list of musicians that have expired before their 28th birthday’s including Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Kobain and many others.  Is there some kind of curse involved here?  Or is it just rock’n'roll excess to the max that brought these entertainers to their early ends.  The most obvious conclusion that can be drawn is that these were people with great artistic vision who also happened to be addictive personalities.  The two often go hand in hand.  What winds up being the feul on the fire in these cases is the unlimited amounts of money these artists are provided once they achieve commercial success.  Each one of the musicians I previously mentioned achieved widespread acclaim and the fortunes that come with appealing to a wide audience.  For a person to have unlimited capitol in the world of today, yesterday or last week is the proverbial equivalent to being a kid in a candy store.  In the case of Whinehouse however, one of her main drugs of choice was reported to be crack cocaine.  This is a drug popular not only for its affects but also for its incredible cheapness.  Why, would an extremely wealthy musician such as Whinehouse pursue such a cheap and dangerous high when so many safer and less scummy ones existed for someone in her tax bracket?  Whinehouse’s death may well have been an accident.  In fact it most likely was.  But, in her case one can’t help but wonder if she wasn’t performing a slow suicide from the moment she picked up a crack-pipe.
