Nayanthara is a leading south Indian actress of today. She has acted in all south Indian languages including Malayalam from where she was brought up. Nayanthara’s career has seen ups and downs randomly without any series of hits like many popular actresses do. This beautiful south Indian actress mostly played roles of a traditional south Indian girl but since the film Billa she started glamour roles also. This is her small biography and photo gallery.

Nayanthara is the stage name of Diana Mariam Kurian who was born in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta District in Kerala. She was born on November 18 1984. Yes, it sounds just like Meera Jasmine who was born in the same year in the same city. But Meera Jasmine is 9 months older than Nayanthara.

Nayantara mainly played leading roles in South Indian film industry. She acted in many Telugu (Tollywood), Tamil (Kollywood) and Malayalam (Mollywood) films where some of the films are dubbed into the other languages. She used to look very beautiful in the beginning of her career around 2004. Now that has changed somehow, and with the kind of rumors floating around one after another on Nayanthara, she has faced the worst times in Tollywood and Kollywood. Some directors refused to give her offers.

Nayanthara has seen most success in movies Chandramukhi, Billa, Ghajini, Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Aadhavan. Many successful actresses or actors make a series of hits and thus become most popular, successful and leading actors in a given film industry. Nayantara never had such a series of hits. But she didn’t have too many flops in a series. As if she has some random luck or random bad luck, it could never be guessed which film of her will do well at the box office.

All these Nayantara’s movies that became hit were not done in a series. In between there were some flops or moderate films. Her acting is good and hence she continuously got offers even when one director refused because of some reason. Her latest film Aadhavan in Tamil with Surya Sivakumar was huge hit in 2009. Also important to note is that her film Yaaradi Nee Mohini was the biggest hit of that year in Tamil film industry (Kollywood). She was nominated for awards for that film.

Nayanthara who played traditional south Indian girl roles for a long time has started doing glamorous roles exposing her body from the film Billa (Tamil). That does not mean she has completely changed due to lack of offers. She did variety for this film as it required. Billa featured other actresses (Namitha and Hansika) and in Telugu it was Anushka who did her glamorous role. Nayantara is also debuting in Kannada film Industry (Sandalwood) in the upcoming film Super.
